We first met Carter Bell in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. Then, he graced us with a pile of mentions in Lara Croft Relic Run. We got to get to know him better with the 5-issue comic Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen, as well as the novel Lara Croft and the Blade of Gwynnever. He was a part of just four stories in the Lara Croft series, but he stood out, not as an equal to Lara (Because who really comes close?) but as an aspiring adventurer that looks up to her. Lara Croft has always been a feminist symbol, and Carter Bell shows us boys what that looks like in a man. He never makes unwanted advances, ever. He never makes inappropriate remarks about her sexuality. He respects her and her work. He's never felt "emasculated" when Lara saves his life, and he never feels the need to steal her spotlight. He's confident in who he is, and therefore has no reason to try to bring Lara down so he can feel above her. He's a man.
I'm not sure if the Lara Croft series has died out, and with it Carter Bell, but for the time he was with us, he was a real treat. Way to be, Mr. Bell. |

MilkShakespear you just had to go straight for the identity politics angle didn't you?
Carter Bell was kinda amusing to me in Temple because of his funny remarks, in everything else he was just a talking head so Lara wouldn't have to talk to herself all the time... |
