Default Purpose of Cleopatra's Midas Maker?

In Cleopatra's Palaces, there's a memorable sequence near the end where, upon picking up a small medipack you find yourself encased in a spiral of yellow light and a golden copy of you stands on the platform in front of you - also encased in a spiral of yellow light.
When it takes damage, you take damage (which can make the harpy fight later on somewhat problematic if you don't deal with it quickly). Like the TR1 doppelganger, except it stays still and presumably is still there in the Palaces long after the events of TR4. Just imagine, a solid golden voodoo doll of Lara just waiting to be used by the perfect villain...

So let's delve into hypotheticals here, since I can find nothing online about the purpose of the whole thing except it's a cool device that allows Lara to get to the next area while also making a stationary golden doppelganger.

I actually gave an answer to this in my long-dead TR4 Epilogue project: remember Jean-Yves said Cleopatra took an interest in the Armour of Horus "having realized its significance"? I came up with an answer that
  • the golden light and the shiny new Lara was a backup system for if the Armour was ever destroyed or corrupted (as we see when Seth showed up early for the Horus Reunion Ritual).
  • Cleopatra made (or found) the machinery used to create the Armour in the worst case scenario.
  • In TR4 Epilogue we'd find Lara going back to destinations she traveled throughout TR4 in one final attempt to rid the world of Seth, in that, she would discover this hidden purpose of Cleopatra's Midas Machine.
  • But since the machine has already copied Lara, the new Armour set is locked to Lara only. She'd have to perform the ritual once again on "herself" (the holy scripture statuettes seem to only harness the alignment of the Orion constellation into the Great Pyramid, which the golden spiral could replicate even though we're past the "turn of the millennium" and all that jazz.)
  • So Horus would arrive and possess the Armour of Croft to do battle with Seth. As a golden Lara.
And due to events earlier in TR4 Epilogue, Lara would have the Amulet of Horus again. And yes, Seth is once again free... hence being able to recall Horus again and why he's needed again.

What about you? Other than "cuz it there", what do you think the spirals and golden doppelganger were for in Cleo's abode?

I perceive the Golden Lara (or any other person or being who would enter the chamber before Lara, step on the platform and be embossed in gold ) as a security system to protect the armor from being stolen from Cleopatra.

What happened to Golden Lara after Lara left Cleopatra’s Palace. Is she still there? And if she’s still there, can harpies still come and attack her causing Lara’s health to decrease? o.O

What happened to Lara after AoD confirmed!

Cleopatra's Palace can be completed without activating that Midas machine

How? Using a corner bug or another glitch?

Would have been cool to have to use this system with pieces of the armor for whatever reason !

I would assume if we saw the room of gold under her house again after TR4 the statue would be there.

No way that girl is leaving a solid gold copy of herself in a tomb, even if it weren't linked to her soul.

Cleopatra was the last ruler of Egypt - Hint to the golden Lara. Taken over by the Romans TR5 first section is Rome. Put two and two together do a little research.

Are you confusing Rome with Greece where my Midas reference came from?
