I think they just make less movies and enjoy their baby. When Alicia does a project, Michael does nothing and accompanies Alicia and now Michael is filming a movie and Alicia is the one accompanying Michael. I think they take turns.

As for TR Obsidian ... I feel that the project is very stalled. I don't have good vibes.

Maybe it's because Misha Green is prioritizing the Black Canary movie.

I think it's probably due to the Amazon deal and the pandemic still making things hard for filming in certain locations.

I do think if things die off then Amazon will want to reboot the franchise in some form anyway because they'll hold the rights and its a big enough title to generate an audience. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

I think it is more MGM being too careful with their money considering their finances than Misha or any other person prioritizing other projects.

During SotTR's live stream, Meagan still mentioned that working with Misha and Tasha Huo from the anime has been great. Hopefully that does mean that Misha is definitely still actively working on Tomb Raider and the project is not dead yet, but honestly I am now in the camp that the project, if not dead yet, has definitely come to a potential fatal halt...

I think a second movie will happen, but it will be another 2-3 years before it does. This is because of TR12 and whatever is happening with that elusive game.

I remember there once being an announcement (I'm sorry, I can't find it now but perhaps someone else will remember it) about how the first Vikander movie was loosely tied in with TR2013 (Yamatai) and Rise (Richard, Ana), and how the next movie will be loosely tied in with Shadow. It makes sense because Obsidian is a sacred rock used for ritual objects (mainly knives) in Meso-American culture, and Shadow was somewhat about a Meso-American dagger.

But, the Shadow ship has obviously sailed now. It would be odd for an Obsidian movie to be filmed this year and released next year 5 years after the game it was meant to be inspired by and tied into.

Instead, what SE will most likely want to do in order to capitalize on as much hype as possible, is ensure the next movie is related to the upcoming TR game, and possibly also released around the same time. I think this is why the current second movie is frozen in pre-production limbo, and will take its direction from whatever the new direction is that the games will be going in. So, I think when more info is available on TR12 and this whole unified Lara concept (and that might be another year or so) then the next movie's status will be more solidified.

Of course, all this will result in a complete script re-write, and possibly even a new writer and director, depending on scheduling. I really think it's the current future of TR and what the next game(s) will be about that is causing such a hold up when it comes to the next movie moving into the production phase.

I'll be more worried if it gets to February and they still haven't atleast given us any indication if what's going on because it will have been a full year from announcing Misha as director. Just think in an alternative universe we would have already gotten the sequel by now with Ben Wheatley directing and the filming dates and release date set in stone.
