I don't mind the game itself being unrealistic (I even believe hyperrealism destroys the fun in games), but the graphics shouldn't be too cartoony. (or at least there should be a mix, AOD was perfect in that regard)

If TR was to go with a more cartoonish/stylized look, I would prefer something akin to In the Valley of Gods: And even here, I think I would tone down the cartoony a little bit in the character design for Lara. Last edited by Amunet; 18-12-20 at 16:33. |

But Lara Croft was always meant to be a bond like over the top character, a more cartoon style wouldn't be out of the question, especially for classics.
Reboot the realism fits for it since it's supposed to be nitty and gritty, but the cartoon style fits classic better given Lara Croft and how over the top she can be. I think this franchise is missing out big on the cartoon style, there are many ways to do it like you've posted and many ways that have yet to be experimented with. |

I think the recent project Athia tech demo could potentially the right pitch of vibrant/semi cartoony and realistic for a classic TR. Or any TR really.
Its still very high quality though so would be AAA and we didn't see much to be fair Its an SE game so hopefully they make CD use some assets from it as it looked great. Last edited by jajay119; 18-12-20 at 18:27. |

I really don't want a cartoony looking TR. If it was up to Core, back in the days they would have gone for more realistic yet stylized graphics and honestly that's what I want. It's hard to tell with all those huge 2mē blocks, but that's what they were trying to go for.
To me the perfect example would be the Batman Arkham games. Lots of coloured lighting, detailed environments and characters while going just a bit over the edge and not afraid to exaggerate a bit when it fits. |

For that reason I almost prefer a Lara Croft cartoon. Last edited by PinkyPromise; 18-12-20 at 23:21. |

Another example from FearEffect, I think cel shading really suits the classic FMV model.
