https://x.com/TombRaidrArabia/status...85866458370395 It was recently translated to English. |

It was never officially released in China. It was the work of a Hong Kong cartoonist and its influence was limited to Hong Kong.
At that time, there were some comics in Hong Kong adapted from video games, Tomb Raider was one of them, But as far as I know, this work should not have obtained copyright, So it should have nothing to do with the TR official. Edit: I didn't find any signs on the description page that this work was authorized, but I found that many Hong Kong comics at the time did obtain copyrights from game companies (for example, the Resident Evil 2 comics were authorized by Capcom), so they may have obtained the copyright as well, I'm not sure. Frankly I really liked it
It was fun to discover another version of the story with a different sensibility. It's really over the top, I liked the different encounters with the different beast and let's be real the final with the Dragon is much more exciting than in the game itself. I think having Marco to spoke directly to Lara could've made him a little more memorable. The part in the diving area/Maria Doria all handcuffed was so extra. Too bad this manga doesn't go to the Tibet but I assume It was a concious choice. I think the illustrator made a good job at showcasing all the levels in TR2. |

It was a fun read, but confusing at times... I don't understand, why the order of reading changes at times, sometimes in the middle of a page.
The other issue is how full of typos, whoever did it, I hope will do a rerun on it. Some of the texts make no sense, and some other stuff would need a synonyme, instead of the direct translation. While I find Lara's face very odd, I really enjoyed it both visually and storywise; and am glad that I could see a piece of TR's history! |

It was published and sold in stores but it's hard to say whether or not it's official in the way you'd expect something to be official. Manhua is a big business and there are a ton of video game ones that probably aren't officially licensed or maybe just got the license in a dubious way. Stuff like the regions publisher of the games just gave the OK to do them but it wasn't actually cleared with the IP holders, that kind of stuff. Some are totally legit and even get released in English, Resident Evil Code Veronica is one I know of, so it does happen. Some get blocked by the IP holders from ever being published outside HK, like Street Fighter, but they can't really stop the sale of them within HK because legally copyright infringement is an iffy subject in that region. Whether this was endorsed by Core/Eidos at the time is probably not a question we'll ever know the answer to, but it's still cool
