When I first played Tomb Raider 1996, and made it to the area where the doppelganger is, I thought to myself that the doppelganger's head looked like E.T.'s head except that it's red. Lol.

I think that it was meant to look like ET, indeed. In my opinion, for the remaster they made it too anatomically human.

Yes I've known this for years and assumed it was common knowledge but indeed as another user correctly pointed out, the doppelganger still moves it's head even when down in the lava pit.

I reckon the doppelganger would make a lot of money from doing porn. We'd all want some of the action from that sexy hunk.

I always thought it was dead after it felt inside the lava but yeah it doesn’t burn like Lara does when she touches lava so…
Also it’s very weird we never had a piece of merch using it since it’s a character loved by so many fans ! |

First, this is actually a programming glitch that the developers never fixed, even after all these years. I’ll have to check the remake to see if the same mistake happens again. In *Tomb Raider* by Crystal Dynamics, they showed us that the Doppelganger is still alive, which makes me wonder—did this programming error influence their decision to keep the Doppelganger 'alive' in the story?
In *Tomb Raider: Anniversary*, we only see a cutscene where the Doppelganger falls into the lava and suffers, but we’re never shown what happens next. If the trap door to the lava remains locked, it’s impossible to confirm if she would keep shooting at you. The video you shared reminded me of when I first played the game—I remember reloading the scene over and over because I thought the concept was so creative. Back then, no other game had introduced such an incredible idea for a Doppelganger. That said, it’s still just a bug, albeit a fascinating one! |

I've always assumed it dies when it falls in, partly because I'm keen to quickly move onto the next room and forget about it. The idea it's just sat at the bottom unable to get out is sort of worse. Hopefully it's put out of its Misery when the pyramid starts to collapse.

For last time, the doppelganger isn't dead after it drops into the trap door.
