Regeneration is a bit of a lottery, but sometimes the subconscious can affect the process.
It's maybe not a coincidence for instance the Doctor had a female incarnation right after he had encountered their younger self that show some sexism, even towards their current companion. (See episode Twice Upon a Time) At least too much for their own good (and mine. I have a hard time believing a citizen from a very advanced society can act like that). Like if their subconscious said "now look how it feels to be a woman". There is no explanation for the very last incarnation, however. Last edited by Chamayoo; 14-04-25 at 23:31. |

I love how some are arguing about the drop in viewership as the show keeps getting worse, and how others are arguing about how there was no issue with the race-swap or gender-swap, and no one is catching the obvious correlation here.

If people like it or not for just petty things doesn't really matter, I just explained that it makes sense in the story

Yes, I am sure it is this too. The problem is they keep blaming 'racism' and 'sexism' for the show no longer speaking to audiences, meanwhile at some point you have to stop and realize you can't keep blaming all these "-isms" and instead: it's just bad writing.

The first female/black doctor had potential to be really good, but they completely missed the mark with their portrayal of The Doctor. But that's half the issue, the other half is the abysmal on the nose writing and preaching from show runners, favouring topical political issues over good storytelling. Also the acting in general is atrocious compared to how it used to be.
I really think when RTD returned in 2005 and made DW a success, he really wanted it to do well and respected the original. This time he's returned with a huge ego and is basically using the show as a vessel to preach his political agenda. How this is the same guy that wrote complex, meaningful episodes in Series 1-4 constantly baffles me. The "Yas Queen" and the kick is probably the most out of character thing The Doctor has done. But this isn't The Doctor, this is Eric from Sex Education in space. Can't wait for the show to be axed. |

Anyone watching the new second season of Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor?
Episode 2 was on BBC1 tonight in the UK, this season so far seems better than last season. You can catch up on the BBC I player if you missed them. |

I did enjoy it but I’m not gonna lie I feel like the power of the pantheon is a hit wishy washy.
