The former had actual new content and bonus modes alongside other goodies , the latter had..an outfit .

Well, damage control and whatnot. I somehow don't think we would have gotten half of the 20th anniversary content had there not been the exclusivity fiasco in the first place.

And I have the same opinion about the games too. Talking about expansions, Yes tombs are good but rise offers far more replayability than shadow. Rise had such great dlcs with intriguing stories I'd say. Baba yaga, cold darkness, endurance and manor (though short but atleast fan service was done) with a good story. The biggest lie with Shadow's marketing was the last dlc would be the biggest dlc exclusive to the editions which was NOT coz we all know what happened later.

I agree. I really tried to give Shadow a chance but there's just no replay value. The story is way too slow paced and jumbled to really make me want to play it again. The tombs are great, and I used to have a fun time going back to play them, but after you know what to do, the tombs really lose their fun factor.

I can always jump into Rise and have a good time. The story has such a nice flow to it. You can either just do the main missions or you can take a bit more time to explore the hubs and tombs without it affecting the pacing of the campaign. You can jump into chapter replay if you want to do some of the specific sections. Blood Ties has enough puzzles and exploration to keep you occupied for a good amount of time. And of course, Endurance mode is always a challenge. I didn't care too much for Cold Darkness or Lara's Nightmare but they do add variety.

Idk, I like Shadow, but my opinion of it kind of takes a dip whenever I compare it to Rise. Rise really does feel like the definitive reboot game, even if Shadow has more of a Tomb Raider feel.

Couldn't have said it better

Shadow has its moments , but Rise will always be the more consistently good , varied and balanced game out of the three , I go back to it (and TR2013) frequently , whereas I can't be bothered to go back to continue my third playthrough for Shadow .

If there's ever a re-release for PS5, I really hope they apply some effective anti-aliasing.
