Smile Even Higher Quality FMV's

Doing some searching I found out the Tomb Raider trilogy for Mac in 2001 included remastered FMV's and sure enough for Tomb Raider 3 these are higher quality than what everyone has had access to.

Not mind blowing higher quality but the compression used on these are much better than the originals so the footage is grainer (good grain that shows details) so the tomb stone in the flashback sequence is more readable.

Wont be able to upload them til tomorrow and unfortunately there's a catch that they are 15FPS and not 30! (Don't know if originals are 30 but files from TombRaiderChronicles are)

In the meantime here are some comparison screenshots. Overall the compression used for the 2001 remaster are much more true to colour and the original 1998 FMVs were darkened from their masters. Water looks better and darker sequences are sharper because everything is brighter like the end FMV.

Very interesting!

I do believe both the psx and pc dmvs are capped at 15 or 20fps

The ps1 and pc versions fmvs are at 30fps, and I could've sworn there was already a thread with a comparison between the 3 versions fmv's some time ago.

Here they are uploaded, originals (for preservation) and converted H.264 for playback now.

Only problem is my exporter produces visual artifacts now and then on the video.

I'll let someone else properly convert them but the originals use a "Sorenson codec"

Those delete in 7 days so if someone wants to upload them to a permanent mirror, go for it.

And there is still a difference between the US and German versions of these videos.

These look surprisingly better indeed... Albeit maybe not so much considering even PPC Macs shipped with high res monitors compared to what was consumer standard on PCs, so it makes sense that they would improve the quality of the videos.

At least the audio is at a higher sample rate than the ps1 version, still adpcm sadly...
