Default Eurovision Song Contest 2020 / Reminiscing About the Past

Any Eurofans still standing?

Well it's timeto crawl out of our coffins again because it's Eurovision week! Albeit a very depressing one... But we can change that!

Yesterday was supposed to be the day of the first semi-final for this year's contest.

Instead we got a presentation of all the songs. There's another one coming on Thursday in place of the second semi-final and there's something planned for Saturday too.

Which are your favourite entries this year? I'm obsessed with Russia and Serbia!

_______________

Since we won't get any live stages, I thought I'd share some of the most iconic ones from past contestsinstead

Norway - Alexander Rybak - Fairytale - 2009

Sweden - Måns Zelmerlöw - Heroes - 2015

Portugal - Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois - 2017

Sweden - Loreen - Euphoria - 2012

Finland - Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah - 2006

Austria - Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix - 2014

Ukraine - Ruslana - Wild Dances - 2004

Russia - Polina Gagarina - A Million Voices - 2015

Serbia - Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane Moje - 2004

Bulgaria - Kristian Kostov - Beautiful Mess - 2017

Italy - Il Volo - Grande Amore - 2015

Denmark - Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops - 2013

Greece - Sakis Rouvas - Shake It - 2004

Russia - Dima Bilan - Never Let You Go - 2006

Netherlands - The Common Linnets - Calm After the Storm - 2014

Serbia - Marija Šerifović - Molitva - 2007

Ukraine - Jamala - 1944 - 2016

Russia - Dima Bilan - Believe - 2008

Germany - Lena - Satellite - 2010

Bosnia and Herzegovina - Hari Mata Hari - Lejla - 2006

Russia - Buranovskiye Babushki - Party for Everybody - 2012

Israel - Netta - Toy - 2018

Australia - Dami Im - Sound of Silence - 2016

Azerbaijan - Farid Mammadov - Hold Me - 2013

Netherlands - Duncan Laurence - Arcade - 2019

Greece - Helena Paparizou - My Number One - 2005

Sweden - Sanna Nielsen - Undo - 2014

Which is your favourite song ever? Favourite year?

Greek national pride dictates that I choose My Number One as my all time favourite but the song is that good anyway and I adore Helena so it's good.

My favourite year has to be 2009. I think I didn't hate any of the songs that made it to the final, I actually love a lot of them, and I think Rybak was a deserving winner even if i've gotten sick of Fairytale over the years...

I honestly don't get why we don't have a virtual edition. All the songs are out, just skip the live show.

Favorite year to me is probably 2010, because I remember saying to myself "man, there are so many good songs".

As for favorite song, you already posted a lot of my favorites, so I'll share some of my other favorites:

maNga - We could be the same - Turkey, 2010
IVAN - Help you fly - Belarus, 2016
Rasmussen - Higher ground - Denmark, 2018
Sanja Ilić & Balkanika - Nova Deca - Serbia, 2018

And some of the Portuguese classics (Today's the 3rd anniversary of our win )

Madalena Iglésias - Ele e Ela (1966)
Carlos Paião - Play Back (1981)

Alongside:
Suzy - Quero ser tua (2014) - Yes, I unironically love this song. It's super catchy, and energetic.

Agreed. I've read of some countries (including mine) doing their own version of the Song Contest. The songs will be presented and voted for - but there's no jury voting and I don't think it's possible to call in from a different country.

At least we don't have to live completely without it.

TRF has had a Eurovision thread every year nearly so I'm glad you opened this!

I'll bite with my favourite songs over the decades.

I'll fold all these links into a single playlist if it's considered too many but it's hard to condense everything into a single post.

I love Hard Rock Hallelujah. One of the best Eurovision performances ever! They just completely owned that stage that night.
