There are open books around Croft Manor and you can read a sentence or two from each by pressing the interactive butten when near them..

There were alot of books scattered all over the Legend's Manor as well, you couldn't miss them. Alistair was sitting behind one the whole time.

Its very realistic in the fact that one needs to read up and do research before going out in the field to Tomb Raid. Even in the second movie cradle of Life, we saw Lara sparring with Hillary while they talked over the number of books they would need to read to find more references to the Orb.

Hillary: You'll find the killers.Don't take it out on me!

Lara: Bryce, what have we got?

Bryce: I haven't loaded your images yet.

Lara: What about references to an orb?

Bryce: Inventories of the Luna Temple do not list any orb.

Lara: I want you both to list every orb ever mentioned in Greek history.

Hillary: That's liable to be thousands!

Lara: Then we'll read thousands.

Lara throws her sword at a book shelf filled with books.

Lara: Start with that one.

Lara only says "this book is not very interesting" if she has already read it, so no l did not have that on the list. The only books she will read twice are the ones with clues to the Manor puzzles.

I don't bother reading the books anyway, in fact you can just complete the croft manor without reading the books...
