This game is definitely so dark like the 2nd black flying star as it's as black as the ground!!

Not nescessary - TR3JP came with two disks - JP and EN. With unique SLPS codes

I dont know why anyone thinks TR3J is brighter? never noticed. why would it be.

Just compare some textures in TR2 European version and Japan.

In most Japanese versions Lara is yellowish.

Only her upper parts of legs are in regular color.

Go check it out

There are some differences.
And TR3 [Japan] was in fact brighter than the regular version.

I shall! I just..havent noticed even though I play the JP versions pretty exclusively. The monocoloured thighs indicates that vertex coloring was DISABLED in the final Japanese build, this often happens when editing TR levels with PixStr or other texturing programs- any "mono color" texture is replaced with another that is similar. Very interesting

Kind of funny, your signature- I had the same one for many years except it was the japanese version 運なら自分で掴むわ。

I'm aware that what I'm about to say has already been mentioned in this thread, but I personally overcame the darkness issues by adjusting the brightness settings on my TV. I played TR3 on the PS1 and now play TR3 on the PS2 since my PS1 broke several years ago.

If it was a possibility, I would try playing at night with the lights off in the room. You should see better, but I don't know if sufficiently better. It may also depend on the type of the screen of your TV set.

I didn't think of this, but I agree that it's worth trying. TV screens do seem brighter when the room is darker; I often try having my light out and having my blind down.

You're correct. The bright lights on the PlayStation version look brighter, but unfortunately not by much, particularly where it matters (London).

Here's a comparison video:

Another interesting difference: in the Japanese demonstration mode, the lit stick wielding guy manages to get past Lara and she in turn ends up shooting at nothing! You can see for yourselves around the 1:14 mark.
