Whether a game is or isn't a masterpiece is subjective .
Also , TR1 and TR2 strike me more as "fan favorites" . |

I think that this is because Tomb Raider III has perfected the formula introduced in the original Tomb Raider and extended it (with new weapons, moves, etc.) without changing it.

It had the best sense of adventure, at least for me. Cannibalistic natives in the South Pacific, Shiva statues coming alive, crazy cosmetics lady experimenting on people to find immortality, aliens in Area51, etc. Whole game went off the rails.

@SrDanielPonces No...you just don't get it. Sorry. You may be blinded (not literally).
All the upgrade I liked. Like the new effects, weapons, and location. I love the dark feeling you get while playing. Kinda reminds me of TR1 feel a bit. The ability to choice which location was pretty cool. Cutscenes and voices were pretty great as well. imo. I really enjoyed the mysterious of the entire game. From the annoying backtracking in the red section in Aldwych to the fun entire Nevada section. |

I think TR3 is a 'flanderization' of TR. It's everything TR is, in huge quantities, it's a highly dense dose of TR-ness. Everything TR is about, TR3 has a huge quantity of it and it's not even sparsed out, there's not much that could be considered filler, it's all quality content. It's like a shot to the vein of TR.

I wasn't aware TR3 is a fan favorite game when it comes to the classics. Definitely isn't mine. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoyed TR2.

As for TR3, well...It's got "more". More moves, more environmental effects, more open-ended levels, more characters/villains, and the ability to pick which "plotlines" you tackle in what order is a nice touch. Fun fact: As a kid, I could never beat London without using level skip cheats. I'm currently replaying all the games in order, and I can't wait to finally complete it legitimately. |
