I hope it had a terrible day and that it burns in hell with its awful backtracking

Arguably the most innovative and cleverly designed game in the series, accompanied by beautiful art direction and cinematography and, last but not least, a brilliantly cohesive and atmospheric soundtrack. Core Design finally went all out with creative new gameplay features and was able to take full advantage of them. It was a bold move to embrace the challenge aspect the series was known for and I appreciate that.
I can't say I'm always in the mood for TR4, but when I am, it just feels so immersive and rewarding. To me, it's the last authentic Tomb Raider experience and I'm at peace with that. Anyway. I hope it had a wonderful day and that it continues to leave all the haters with no taste fuming. ![]() Last edited by jonathanrij; 12-12-19 at 20:21. |

One thing I like about TR 4 is that in the terms of texture variety and colors it's much better than previous games.(But they had to make areas smaller and add some loading areas in between which imo wasn't a big deal.)

Why? Don't like backtracking at all or just the way it was done in TR4?

Well... Maybe it was really overdid in some TR4 levels. But in general - I miss the backracking in modern games.

Backtracking is generally fine for me, but TR4 just takes it to a new level.

Or finding the 4 beetle pieces for the winding key. 3 in Pharos, Temple of Isis. Fourth? ‘Must be in this level for sure’ ~ *500 Hundred Years Later* ~ ‘Oh, it’s in Miss Cleopatra’s Palace. Now back to Pharos.’ Or Cairo, with its misleading levels. Where’s the motorcycle booster. The bomb codes? A valve? Pulling a dead body?? Activating a fire sprinkler with a torch??? The only ‘acceptable’ backtracking levels (hubs, more precisely) are Karnak and Giza imho.
