RE3 was my first RE, can't wait for the remake. Jill is my fave character all the time. ❤️

I know they've stated they could change it up again for the next mainline entry (so my worries might not even need be relevant), but I really do hope RE8 ends up being third person. (Apologies if this has already been a talking point).

The RE2 remake worked so well and I think they've hit another sweet spot in terms of gameplay etc. just like RE4 did all those years ago.

Yes.
And no

Fungo on YT did a great video saying that RE2 remake was missing "The Fear" that past games had.
Mainly down to the shift in camera style

Instead if hiding enemies past a static camera, now Capcom simply hides enemies cheaply around corners to "scare"
New camera system also puts a heavier focus on combat..

It was an interesting view..

But by no means am I badmouthing RE2 remake.. it was the closest to RE since Zero and 4

They could always include both camera angles. Many games do it. EVIL WITHIN 2 even patched in a first person mode which was so ironic as the game was held up as a reason as to why RE7 didnt work by detractors. Personally I liked the first person view and I do feel like it was a natural extension of the fixed cameras. But both would be good.

There's a lot more work that needs to go into a third-person fixed camera angles feature than implementing a first person cam. And if your game is built around one camera style, I'd rather it not muddy the waters by adding another which it was never meant for just to appeal to fans.

Leon, a bottom?

Those mods are weird for sure, but funny.

And yet many games can do it successfully. They already have the groundwork for both states within the RE engine. I can see building in a 3rd person to an exclusively first person experience as hard work due to the nature of developing animations and character models but not the other way around. Someone with no funding and time created a first person mod for Remake 2.

Mod Edit: You edited it in just as I was editing it out of the other posts.

Very few, if any games have implemented both third and first person camera's well.

Sure, you can just stick the camera in someones face and let you walk around in 'first person' but games are designed around the perspective.

Closest I can think of is when FPS's go to third person while in vehicles, but that involves a different control scheme and usually a different environment designed around the different camera.
