It's been used as a benchmark reference because of how demanding it is due to the complexity of some of its sections and environments.
Console players might not have realized it but, fortnite-ish skin rendering aside, this game makes Rise seem like a Super Nintendo game in comparison. That's why it's being featured in benchmark reports, making it what Crysis 3 used to be until 6 years ago.

I'm glad to see SOTTR being updated.
And yes, the game is on a lot of yt channels, benchmark sites for testing. ROTTR was the first game that had better performance under DX12. SOTTR made the optimization even better. It was also the first game to showcase Raytracing. And it looks really beautiful, maybe it's overlooked in that regard in mainstream gaming community. I advice to play without AA. The built-in method makes the game kinda blurry and you lose details. At native 4k/max this is still one of the most detailed games i seen. The poly count is high and textures are all very high-res. |

If they were to film all this into a new Tomb Raider film, I'd like to see Rise of the Tomb Raider combined with shadow of the Tomb Raider. No Jonah. A fresh approach would be a story told different than before. I'd say she climbed the ice mountain in search of the divine source that her father left the location to in one of his videos that she would get with his official death. The connection is that maybe her father suspected Trinity to go after the divine source. Again, no Jonah. Anna, whom she had discovered leads the expedition to the divine source through the company "Patna". No brother story. The village she then discovers, is under attack by Anna's forces. But these forces weren't Anna's. They were from a Mexican shadow government that leads Trinity. And they take the divine source to Mexico. No Jacob. There in Mexico, the divine source is a key item to open a door that would grant the opener of that door the ability to become immune to the virus, by exposure to a pathogen inside that closed room, and become a deathless. Like Himiko. With that immunity, and immortality, the leader of Trinity could become like a god on the Earth. (Insert sappy motivations here). But Lara Croft is there. And she'll stop him. Succesfully doing so, she is moving to the house she inherited from her father. A house she didn't know she had. Her father built a replica arc of the covenant at the front entrance. (TR 1) And then the movie every Tomb Raider fan wants to see get made, should be made. Inspired by Tomb Raider 1.
