Default Sonic Highest Opening Video Game Movie!

So Sonic is now the highest-grossing opening weekend video game movie, knocking off Detective Pikachu.

Given the bad press the movie got from it's first trailer around the design of Sonic, it's great to see that the studio paid attention to fans and critics and changed the design of the character (for the better).

Let's hope that MGM/Sq Enix approach the next TR movie with the same attitude and respect fans comments when we do eventually see something from the film...

Let's be honest, most sequels never do as well as their predecessor but can TR2 beat the 2018 movie?

I am still surprised with Sonic being well received even by critics: even after the redesign the movie just looked so "cartoon creature somehow goes into real world" bad. Good for it, I guess.

And MGM and GK Films seem to be taking the criticisms the first movie got into consideration. The movie was criticized for being generic, the sequel has hired one of the most interesting director/writer combo in the British indie scene. The movie was criticized by a somehow small scope, the next movie is rumoured to adapt both RotTR and SotTR. Hopefully it also makes good money, but I think in terms of quality, everyone responsible is actually trying to make a quality movie this time.

I have, and it was fine I guess some things I like the most was Ben Schwartz as Sonic you can say he try to made Sonic is own so that's refreshing. Jim Carrey was a blast a full comedic but also menacing villain. The plot was kinda generic but it work. My biggest grief about the movie was the lead actor and the character he play he was sooo bland. Some jokes didn't land well (especially in the second part and the movie lack in scope. But overall It's a fine entertainment movie for all the family and the fans of the blue Hedgehog (wich I am).

I'm pleased for it! It was nice they acted on fan feedback and it was clearly worth it!

I think it has a good chance...as long as they continue on where they left Lara at the end of the first film and don't reset her back to square one. I hope whatever they take from Rise and Shadow is only minimal and they do their own thing. I don't wanna watch a rehash of those two games. Lastly as long as the advertising doesn't suck like the first movie (the teaser trailer/giraffe poster) then I think it has a good chance! The full trailer however with the survivor song sold me. That was a good trailer.

If I don't see dual pistols in the trailer then I probably won't go and see it. Some might think that's petty but I'm not going to be teased and left hanging for the 3rd time. No thanks.

Indeed, they deserve the success for that.

Unlike several other movies lately who blatantly disrespect the source material, then insult the fans when they reject it, and then blame those same fans when the movie flops.

Jim Carrey's performance is certainly one of the reasons I'm interested in this, (apart from being a Sonic fan). Seems like a pretty fun movie, might give it a go

Yes, but movies who have such outlandish characters as Sonic and Robotnic kinda need a bland everyday character for the audience to connect to: to acknowledge how insane the other characters are.

But one of those characters was enough: I really don't think the movie needed to include his wife, who was even boringer and hardly did anything anyway.
