Default 8k resolution scaling - Tomb Raider II

8k 8092 x 4320 Image of Tomb Raider II
The Youtube video from which this image was taken shows
that Tomb Raider II - patched with Carlmundo's Automated Fix -
a) can be upscaled up to 8k,
while some newer games cannot even reach 4k;
b) has an increased visible area,
while most games show the same visible area regardless the resolution.

Does it change the frame rate of the TR2 game with 8k resolution?

Does it slow the game down, especially when you have many characters on screen fighting, like picture below?

I get 30 FPS for a 1024 x768 screen resolution on my TR2 games.

All the old TR games are capped at 30 FPS, but can the game become slower in higher resolutions?

Well, I guess that depends on your hardware. With a Core i9-13900KF, 64 GB DDR5-6000 and a GeForce RTX 4900 you won't see any slowdowns. It always remains at 30 FPS.

Today, Feb 20, 2023, there is a new video on this topic:
Resolution Scaling in 4k and 8k with Nvidia DSR
Does an inscreased resolution result in
- a larger visible area?
- better visual quality?
Advantages and disadvantages of 8k

The games used in this video are Final Fantasy XIV and Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation.

Good video, showing 2K 4k and 8K for TR2 coastal ruins level.

2k and 4k seemed OK.

Only thing i have against 8K is that Lara looks far too small in a large area, even with your big screen.

Also the landscape looked a bit distorted at 8k?
Is it difficult to play the game at such a high resolution?

Interesting that the game is capped at 30FPS no matter the resolution.

Anyway it is all academic to me and my old Win7 computer with an ancient video card and small screen, means I can only play the game at a maximum of 1024 x768

But the higher resolution up to 4K, looks good.
I better get a lottery win soon to get an upgraded computer and screen

This thread was started because I tested "Carlmundo's Automated Fix" that is only for TR2.

However, both TR3 and TR4 required a different approach, because I do not know of an all-in-one patch comparable to Carlmundo's. Therefore I wanted to make a video to explain the approach I used for TR3 and TR4. Well, maybe later ...

Anyway: In the widescreen patch for TR2-3-4, you can change not only the resolution ratio, but also a) distance from Lara and b) field of view. I tested different settings for both options, and in the video you see my personal preferences for playing the game.
