I hope so. If CD was returning, however, with no lessons learned and all, then my worst nightmare for TR came true.

I guessed, but for me no thanks

I'm just done with them repeating mistakes over and over again no matter what era we are in.

I did use to enjoy LAU back in the day (I still do somewhat, as long as I appreciate them for what they are, not what they should/tried to be) but after going back to the classics with a more mature understanding of well... pretty much everything, I really started to see what CD were doing wrong then. I finally understood the complaints about exploration, Lara's portrayal, cheesy story, etc.

But EM comes along and in just one game they managed what CD didn't in 10 years. Well ok, they did get it right with GOL but everything they learned (and were praised for) with that game was completely forgotten in the next pillar releases. They have always been able to deliver good TR experiences when they care enough to try, but they just chose never to do so. And that's why I'm so sick of them. They have the potential, they just don't have the interest.

EM on the other hand tried their best with the restrictions they had. They gave us what we wanted as much as they could. They brought back colourful and rich environments, they got rid of white ledges, they tried making a more bad ass Lara, they focused on exploration and platforming, we got puzzles as priorities back, we got more focus on supernatural elements, they brought back final bosses, they brought back, they brought back the focus on ancient locations/temples/tombs, they gave us photo mode when we asked for it, they are at least trying to remove the outfit restriction, etc.
There's so much more I could mention but I think that's enough.

And like I've said countless times in the past: if CD deserved another chance at TR after TRU (and frankly not just TRU because they messed up in one way or another in every release) then EM deserve another shot after Shadow.

CD has had a chance to learn from their mistakes for over a decade, and they never truly did... not really. I don't expect the next game to be any different.

My thoughts exactly. Iíve really enjoyed Crystalís games, more than most of the classics, but they always held back, repeated their own mistakes and were frustratingly deaf when it came to feedback (itís a miracle at this point we even saw white ledges become optional). I can give them another shot at making a TR game, but after EMís efforts with just one, the barís set much higher.

Yes, the work EM has done is amazing, but let's not ignore that they were the devs, of the plan CD had already traced. In fact, SOTTR left CDs hands once the Avengers was put in theirs

They might have planned a bit of the story (because let's face it they were making things up as they went along and it showed) before hand but gameplay is all EM, and gameplay is definitely where that game shines the most. And I'm of the opinion that that is exactly the reason why things like the braid, the rumoured teal shirt/shorts, Natla easter egg, etc got cut from the game. If EM had full creative freedom I think we might have gotten those and some more classic stuff.

If CD had planned to give us any of the things I posted like the optional white ledges they would have done it yearssss ago, way before the reboot.

Does anyone know if I can play the classics on a fairly recent Macbook? Why is TR2 the only classic TR on the App Store?

Unfortunately, unless you want to install Windows onto your MacBook, the only classic Tomb Raider game available for recent Mac computers is TRII.

Back in the day, all of the classics (including AoD) were available on Mac, but they stopped working with later versions of MacOS. I too own a MacBook and would love to play the classics on it

You can play them with wineskin i believe? But it requries some workarounds. You just have to have the original windows installers.

People keep on hating Windows but something that I think we can all agree with is that it has a pretty amazing backwards compatibility. It can still run games dating as far as 1996/7 for as long as they have 32-bit executables. Quite incredible.
