Okay so thankfully I live next to a 24hr store and grabbed a copy of this week's OK magazine.

Basically the gist of the article is that she was told by the makers of the show "You probably don't wanna do this but we have to ask you"... she then goes on to say "**** yes I'll do it!" She says she is a massive fan of Tomb Raider. She then says "I know what I'm going to do with it and I'm going to have a ball, there is a little revolution inside of that show."

Further to that she says that she wants to get across themes and messages she would not necessarily be able to in smaller shows. She talks about how honoured she is "to write for a character that gave me so much as a teenager..."

She says she is doing it because "she loved Lara Croft as a teenager" and felt "empowered by her" she then goes on to talk about the success of Last of Us which she "played for 28 hours" and how it translated to TV so well.

She speaks about how she "doesn't care" what medium a story is along as its compelling and you care for the characters.

It seems like she's going into this with a great deal of care for the series and approaching it with a very definite vision in mind.

Oh you absolute star for picking up a physical copy of the magazine and for summarising the interview. Thank you

It does seem that she hasn't actually started writing yet, but maybe she's in the planning stages.

If it is where Lara is concerned it'd be rude not to go the extra mile for her.

It's worth noting also that she said this all during a masterclass that took place in February so she'd likely be a little bit further into the writing/planning process by now.

I think it was also mentioned in the trade papers that she was attached to produce the series aswell.

The dedication of going out in your jammies. The humility of buying an OK-Magazine. Thanks for letting us know!

Key takeaway: she grew up on classic Lara.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge was born in 1985, so this means she was a teenager during the classic Lara years.

Haha I would not be seen dead leaving the house in PJs.

I would really buy OK! Either tbh but I wanted to read the article.

Her being a teen in the late nineties and millennium in the UK when Lara was experiencing her Beatlemania stage is awesome, I miss those days when she was an absolute superstar.

I can't speak for if the US was the same but here in Ireland and the UK Tomb Raider pretty much became a cultural phenomenon and actively created a whole generation of gamers.

It wasn't just that you bought the game and played it alone it became a family event parents, grandparents and siblings all sat down to play the game and Lara was absolutely everywhere, I'd say the majority of her fame culminated the year Angel of Darkness and Cradle of Life came out which soured a lot of people toward the franchise.
