I can see the concern if Lara, the character, was trans. For a trans actress though ? If she looks like Lara, acts like Lara and sounds like Lara, with talent, no issue tbh.

^Eh, I'm staying outta that

Besides, if our anonymous internet opinions meant anything I would commission the invention of a time machine and cast young Carla Gugino

First noticed how damn fine she was in Spy Kids around the same time I first noticed boys

She is still strikingly gorgeous (as the Haunting of Hill House can attest to) but around age 50, maybe a lil too old to be an action star. Maybe she could be Natla

Yes. Carla is so gorgeous and such a great actress. Also her accents are awesome.

Ah yess, Carla G love!

Her age lines are so delicate and her lips are still so pillowy I just want to like.. touch them

Creepy attraction aside, she is a great actress. I've been super into Sucker Punch lately (the extended version makes all the difference) and her skill at portraying multiple emotions at once is really something to behold

That's in part why I usually prefer to stay away from this kind of debate.
I didn't want to invalidate your concern, Soma and I thought it was another discuss. I just wanted to say I find disrespectful to call this trans woman a dude in purpose, and who only do drag. This is the only reason why I found your response kinda "hating". I also didn't want to pursue the talk because I don't know anything about this trans actress so I would avoid to say nonsense about her (if it's not already the case )

I just wanted to say, many trans take their situation very seriously and it's not just wearing a costume. Hell this is surgery, it's not a light decision. They just wanted to feel better in their body. On the contrary, those who decide to do this for fun... must be a very very special case of a minority. As far as I believe this is paranoia to think otherwise.
Thank you for trying to understand even if we disagree. I don't care at all if men want to wear dresses and makeup or even get surgeries if they are adults. I think they need help but it's their choice, however I do consider it oppressing women when men claim to literally be women when we have so many horrible things we have to go through that they will never understand. It's so ignorant to just think men can decide to be a woman like women don't exist or matter. I don't want to be afraid of rape every time I use the bathroom just because allowing men to come into my space is considered inclusive. Women have legitimate fears about men and that's being pushed aside when suddenly men and women's differences aren't considered.

I think the actor in question is beautiful and I had to look up whether he was trans or not cause I couldn't remember. But he still cannot possibly fathom dealing with life as a woman, so no I would not support him playing Lara Croft in any capacity. I do wish him well though.

But we can move on from the topic now.

Young Carla Gugino was definitely gorgeous and would have made a great Lara. She had an iconic look to her that I think Lara really needs to stand out. Especially if it will be a more classic style Lara.

Lol are we really discussing that a trans guy should be playing Lara?

Imagine the horror of flashing forward to the year 2040 on TRFs.

"Guys I really think it would be cool if Lara was playing by a lesbian black woman with a Hungarian accent because this is closer to her original concept than the trans actor playing her currently."

"Omg you're such a transphobe and bigot, Hungarians and blacks have enough representation. Lara needs to stay trans and needs to now be disabled because the entire concept is ableist."

It wasn't "should", it was "could".

How could this person play Lara though? If we entertain the notion that this person passes for a woman, even in that regard what is Lara-like about Hunter? If anything, there's more of a elvish-pixie-Galadriel thing going on here with Hunter, than someone who could play a good LC.

Talking

I agree that trans women are women and trans men are men.
But I think Lara should be played by a cisgender woman because I don't want any political controversy in my favorite franchise.

This discussion is absurd.

Regardless of whether or not she's trans, Hunter Schafer doesn't look like Lara. She's American, albino, she's a TV actress who hasn't proven anything yet...It seems absurd to focus the discussion on this

Let's focus on:
-A-list actresses (Angelina Jolie, Alicia Vikander... Oscar Winners... the character has a legacy. let's keep it. That it be something prestigious to interpret and the best actress want to be Lara)
-Actresses who look like Lara.
