Well, no, but like @robm_2007 said, I think we're all using it as shorthand for the actual problem, which is Alfred's general depiction, and how to stay true to the devs' original intent, without leaning into harmful stereotypes that are included more for the audience's benefit (if we're being truthful) than because the story actually needs them.

Because, again, Alfred's damage isn't that he's a crossdressing freak (which the game does linger on, outside of that one line of dialogue) - it's a whole host of other things, and the crossdressing is a manifestation of all that.

I mean, personally, I have more of a problem with CV's gameplay structure than its story, so I honestly do not care either way about the story, which would stay more or less the same for a remake anyway.

I think it would be cool if the remake treated Alfred more sympathetically, that's all. If we're gonna get really socially aware, him having DID is a sort of tasteless trait for a villain to begin with, so again, there's not much they can do, other than making him truly likeable.

You know, like a Lady Dimitrescu for the alphabet people. Moreso for the alphabet people.

Ideally, he'd be cool and kind of fun, not just the bog-standard, lauging stock creep that we've come to expect.

CV gameplay is completely fine. I beat the game without using it's OP knife, Magnum, assault rifle and without using weapons that Claire had with Chris and I easily beat that game.

Plus people that forgot to pick up fire extinguisher had only themselves to blame.(Since in classic RE games, whenever a key item becomes useless, the game ALWAYS asks you whether you want to discard it or not)

I also heard some people complain about the bossfights being unbeatable without taking any damage but no damage run is completely possible in the game.

CV has aged better than RE 2 and 3 originals. RE 2 original was too easy that I died only 1 time in my first playthrough on normal. RE 3 original had the worst designed bossfights in classic era RE games.(Nemesis fights that force you to mash buttons to escape his grabs alongside Nemesis becoming completely an annoying monster when you start to fight him.)

Looks good, but doesn't really look like Resident Evil, the same way that the Anderson films' sci-fi-flavored apocalyptica didn't. It's strange, considering how OTT the franchise can get at stages, and this certainly looks like a very "heightened" experience, even a little campy.

I don't understand what's preventing them from making a character drama with the scope of 28 Days Later (or the last 30 seconds of the first RE movie ) set in Raccoon City/Arklay County during the outbreak...

Like, Welcome to Raccoon City but done well, not on a shoestring budget. Doesn't have to be a re-telling of game canon, or featuring the game cast actively involved in the plot...

The whole "Raccoon City saga," or whatever, is incredibly compelling to people. There's a reason Outbreak is such a fan-favorite game.

Capcom have a stream on Monday as part of Summer Game Fest talking about previously announced stuff, hopefully we'll see an update on the Village DLC there. Maybe even the upgrades for 7/2/3 as well. Couldn't care less if Verse is there

On second thought, Resident Evil 4 DOES need a remake and hopefully they make it horror this time. The original is heavily overrated and far from being an RE game (I still consider Code Veronica a the real RE4).

I never understood why some people see 4 as a horror game because it's not. It's action packed and it's the game that put RE on the downhill path. For this first time, I hope that they make changes to the remake but expand the game (or at the very least keep it the same length). This is where Resident Evil 3 remake failed big-time, and when rumors started surfacing about a Nemesis Edition, I got my hopes up for a second, but it sounded too good to be true. Till this day the rumors were never confirmed as real nor fake but I think it's safe to say Capcom will never revisit that game again. Lesson learned from my part as I will now always wait for a price drop before purchasing a Capcom game. I learned not to get excited about their games, nor trust them as developers.

I'm also hoping they remake RE1 again. While the GameCube remake is still the greatest remake of all time, the remaster on PS4 featured some blurry backgrounds that make the game look outdated. A faithful Resident Evil 1 remake on the RE Engine would blow every other game in existence out of the water. But again, the team that worked on the remake, have probably moved on and there's no guarantee that today's remake would be faithful. Another remake of RE1 might sound ridiculous for some, but it's been 20 years since the remake came out on GameCube, so another remake is now more than justifiable.

And let's not forget Code Veronica, which also deserves a remake. Code Veronica is graphically like a mix between PS1 and PS2 games, and while the game is brilliant and challenging, visually it lacks and aged rather average. I don't consider it having bad graphics but when comparing it with the RE Engine games, there is obviously no contest.

Agreed, RE4 gets a lot of hype but it's really not a great RE game IMO. Walk into a room, group of enemies, clear them out, rinse, repeat, endlessly with the occasional very basic puzzle tossed in and some dumb QTEs for good measure. That's why I hope they do change things up in the remake, lean into the horror more, make it more like an RE games and less of an action game. CV does need a remake more but the games have been trading of Leon and Chris for decades now, Chris just had his shot so now it's time for a Leon game! A CV remake wasn't planned but they do listen to feedback so maybe they'll do it. It also seems like Rev 3 is just dead, it was supposed to come out this year. I wonder if the decision to develop RE4make in house on top of doing DLC for Village which wasn't planned meant they pulled resources from the Rev 3 team and shut that game down?

The PS5 versions of 7/2/3 have been added to PSN so I'd expect those to release Monday when the Capcom event finishes

I hope REV3 is just put on hold.

Cool

I'm more excited for REV3 than anything else qt this point. It feels like the only place they're creative but true to the series too. Re3, Village and now RE4 really aren't filling me with confidence for the survival horror element of the series which is annoying because REV2, Remake 2 and RE7 were going in such a good direction with that.
