Writer Belinda Garcia has just joined the team at Crystal Dynamics as Game Writer and Narrative Designer for the upcoming Tomb Raider video game. Belinda is a talented writer who has previously worked on Call of Duty and Stonefly.
Belinda made the following statements on her Twitter account regarding this news: "I feel so fortunate to be a part of this franchise. Excited, honored - every wonderful feeling. This team is filled with so many talented and wonderful people and I can't believe I get to be one of them." I am not familiar with the games she worked on, however, the fact that such imporant role was just announced makes me thing the game is actually just starting it's development. Thoughts? CD have previously lowered the bar to new lows when it comes to storytelling, plotlines, characters and dialogue, so I feel like it can only be uphill from here, so I have an open mind.

I'm not familiar with her work to make any kind of judgment on it. I just hope she's allowed to be fully creative and do her thing. I don't want them to force whatever daddy issues story they want onto her to work with, while toting her around as this "look we have a female writer! So stunning and brave" statement, like they did with Rhianna Pratchett.

If the story is about family members or saving friends again I’m gonna quit on this franchise forever!

Wonderful! I hope she takes TR's approach to stories in a fresher direction (i.e. no more family drama, resque mission nr. 6363579, or Lara trying to be buddy-buddy with virtually everyone who isn't an obvious villain).

I hope she keeps Lara's dialogue pithy and English. I also hope she isn't woke.

Pretty sure being woke is just part of the corporate hiring process these days so I doubt we’ll escape that.
But here’s hoping she’s not as awful as Rhianna Pratchett was, who hated classic Lara, and can at least string together decent dialogue that makes sense. |
