Some of the games in trouble are pokemon/Nintendo ones. The full force of Nintendo's lawyers will fix this.

Immortals of Aveum developer has laid off over half of its staff.

Brutal.

I could tell the game was going to flop hard before it even released. I hope the developers that were let go are able to find new employment soon.

E3 will not come back next year as well, but they plan to reboot it for 2025.
Meanwhile, Summer Game Fest confirmed they're back next june.
E3 is never returning unless they revert back to what it was in the early 2000s. When you remove everything worth going for and reduce it to what is basically a bunch of demo reels and trailers, what is the point? Companies rightly saw "We can just do all this ourselves, whenever we want".

A documentary was released by a German outlet about the disaster that was Gollum, it has English subtitles if anyone wants to give it a watch. People who worked on the game are interviewed so you get an inside perspective on the game and Daedalic as a whole.

Beyond the typical reasons everyone guessed like underfunded, understaffed, overworked employees with bad management and guidance there were some other standout problems. Daedalic were in trouble even before the game started development, multiple flops cost them and they were floundering hard. Trailers being made and released without the dev teams knowledge shot the public view of the game even before launch. Levels and mechanics were being cut back as late as 2022, with the Gollum/Smeagol sections being rendered almost pointless. The cherry on top was the public apology being put out by the publisher without the developers knowledge and it was apparently written using ChatGPT of all things! It was interesting to hear they planned a Gandalf focused game as a follow up but Middle Earth vetoed the idea because it conflicted with something else they had planned. It's a shame, Gollum is a weird game but you can tell the people who worked on it actually cared, they just didn't have the strength to see it through.

A quick google search tells me no.

"E3 is finished, for good this time. The Entertainment Software Association confirmed today that the event will not be happening in 2024 or any time thereafter, bringing 28 years of the video game industry's most prolific trade event to a sudden, unceremonious end. E3's demise isn't wholly unexpected."

This was posted by Wired on Dec 12 of last year.

I keep hearing bad news about the video game industry. This doesn't bode well.

Its unfortunately just do to the industry collapsing in on itself. These games with huge multi million dollar budgets, usually more than movies, is just not really sustainable.
