Mass Effect (Series)
Mass Effect is an award-winning, bestselling series of science fiction RPG third person shooters developed by the Canadian company BioWare and released for the Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows and, from the second installment, for the PlayStation 3. The first game in the planned trilogy centers around a player created character named Commander Shepard and their mission to save the galaxy from a race of mechanical beings known as the Reapers, and its followers, including the brainwashed Saren Arterius. The first game sees Shepard facing Sovereign, a Reaper left as a vanguard, who plans to allow the Reaper fleet currently hibernating in extra-galactic dark space to invade the Milky Way and destroy all sapient organic life, continuing a mysterious cycle of destruction. The second game takes place two years later, and sees Shepard battling the Collectors, an alien race abducting entire human colonies in a plan to help the return of the Reapers. The third and final game will center on the final battle against the Reapers. Since the beginning the series has been a major critical success. Both games have received critical acclaim for their storyline, characters, voice acting, choices, and the depth of the galaxy. Video game website, GamesRadar, called Mass Effect the best new franchise of the generation, saying that the galaxy was so well-constructed that it felt like a decades-old franchise and that it represented "a high-water mark for video games as a story-telling medium." Main Series _____________________________________________ There is no spin-off, it doesn't exist. It offends the very fabric of humanity. Well it would, if it did exist. But it doesn't _____________________________________________ But there is this spin-off: Why there has been no thread on the series as a whole yet is beyond me. Figured it was about time for Bioware's Epic series! I know there is multiple ME fans here, so let the discussing and waiting begin. Last edited by Carbonek_0051; 27-12-12 at 15:34. |

There's been no thread because it was easier to spam the ME2 thread. Also you're like the official thread maker or something.

I loved the series. I remember seeing the original Mass Effect in rental stores and thinking it was some cheap spinoff of Halo and I was confident I wouldn't like it. Then I heard about it and ended up buying it along with Mass Effect 2 for $12 each a few months after ME2 was released, and I am so glad I was dead wrong. Now I'm obsessed with RPG games.

While I do think the second game is more polished and think the story is overall better. The inventory, ammo system (or lack of one), and overall feel was better in the first game. At least to me. I've replayed the first game 8 times, while I've only played the second game once and have yet to go through for another playthrough. However that being said, Mass Effect 2 is incredible.

The story in ME was hell of a lot better than ME2's, primarily because the plot felt tighter and focused due to it not being a recruitement mission for the majority of it. There was also a cheesy, retro Sci-Fi atmosphere that I absolutely loved, sadly it was taken down in ME2, I guess it was appropriate to reinforce the darker, sleeker narrative. They say ME3 is going to be a more movie-like cinematic experience ala Lair of the Shadow Broker. I could really see it from the E3 demo, felt very evolved.

I honestly got bored with Mass Effect 2, loved the demo for it but the main games story just doesn't move as quickly as I want it to. The first one is really killer though.
