@ Avalon SARL: I'm sure it's possible considering TR Unfinished Business was ported from PC to psx.

@Avalon SARL

I'm likely wrong, but it's possible the "aha" might be tied to the animation itself, meaning the animation itself triggers the sound at a specific frame.

As for people wondering why they didn't go with longer phrases, hardware restrictions of the console versions possibly had something to do with that.

I played TR1 to TR5 on mac and if I recall correctly in the settings there was the option for the Aha sound to be played for "Interesting items only".

I never thought there'd be so much discussion about the aha.

Tbh, it was probably just Core's intent to be a quirky way to acknowledge she picked something up. (Lara being a Tomb Raider, so aha is like "I've found something valuable.")

I wouldn't have expected them to have individualized responses, especially in the 90s. What would've made much more sense is to keep it for puzzles. If Lara did have the correct item for a puzzle, then have her say aha in front of it to denote to the player that you have the correct piece.

I honestly wish they would've done something like that for the classics instead of making you rely on blindly pressing action until the menu pops up.

@ Jathom: Well then let's change the subject. The only levels I didn't care for are; the opera house, the first Venice level, the deck of the Maria Doria ( because of the flamethrower guy). The other levels I liked.

I used to play the classics in chronological order, so whenever I finished 2 and got my first pick up in 3, I'd kind of miss the "aha"

Anyways,
Pros:
-"Pardon me, if that was just your way of trying the doors for me"
-Nice variety of locations (especially Maria Doria IMO)
-The Great Wall was a reasonably lengthed intro the game (unlike India)
-Nice variety of outfits
-OST

Cons:
-Too much combat
-Location overkill (China and Venice were a decent length, Ofshore Rig should have remained 1 level, Underwater section should have been scaled down to 3, same with Tibet, could have added another 3 level location instead)

Back when I was a teen, this was my favorite TR game, bar none. It's not in that position any longer, but I still enjoy quite a bit about it. My main problem is it's so uneven.

The first level is one of the best in any TR game, and the two following levels (Venice and Bartoli's Hideout) are also a lot of fun and well-designed.

It's at Opera House that things start to falter- the level is too damn long for only the fourth level in the game, and may have been the first time in the series when I resorted to a strategy guide to figure out how to beat it.

The two offshore rig levels were a bit of a rebound, though they were also arguably the first time the series ventured away from the settings established in the first game. They were a foreshadowing of things to come.

The four water levels, I hardly ever have the urge to replay them. I think it was a mistake to devote that much to such a setting.

Tibet gets the game back on track- my favorite in the batch being Barkhang Monastery and Catacombs of the Talion.

Temple of Xian is an amazing level in terms of the variety of rooms- it's just incredibly difficult and I've only played through it once or twice as a result. Floating Islands, same deal.

The Dragon's Lair is a pretty epic final boss battle, and a bit more difficult than the first game's.

Lara's Home was a great "one more action scene after the climax" that would be right at home in an action movie. And it gives us the immortal ending line.

The new moves were appreciated, and Lara's in-game character model looks SO much better than in the first game, which was hindered by the limitations of the time. Plus she has a ponytail, and it moves! Yeah, it's hardly worth mentioning today but those kind of physics were pretty nifty back in 1997.

Overall, pretty good but TR1 still is the most fun to play, overall.

TR 2 is still my fav of all the TR games I've played, now there's a remaster out there, but it only for PC.
