Default Tomb Raider 3 Steam on Windows 10 help. Game doesn't boot.

Hello fellow Tomb Raider fans

I am at my wits end with Tomb Raider 3 Steam edition on Windows 10.

It doesn't boot at all.

Can somebody advise comprehensively and step by step, what I need to do to get this working and advise what the best quality of life mods are?

I recently played TR1 on PC and used the Automated Fix and had hoped this kind of streamlined solution would exist for the rest of the games. With TR2 the game was booting, but I couldn't be bothered figuring it all out as it didn't have automated fix, so I ended up playing through that on an Android emulator on PC.

Now I'm onto TR3, which is my favourite of the series, and at first I gave up on getting the PC worked and played the first level of the PS1 version on my PS4, but that looked so bad after playing TR1 PC and TR2 Android on PC, that I can't tolerate the PS1 version of the game the way I used to.

I look forward to your replies.

First of all, completely uninstall Tomb Raider III, then reinstall it so that you can start again with a fresh install.

Once you've done that, download tomb3 and drag and drop all the files into your Tomb Raider III directory, where the tomb3.exe file is. tomb3 is a decompilation project very similar to "tomb1main". It fixes many legacy bugs, restores features from the PSX version and introduces new features too.

Now download dgvoodoo and drag and drop the "dgVoodooCpl.exe" file into your Tomb Raider III directory, the same place where you put the tomb3.exe file earlier. Also make sure to navigate into the "MS" folder, then the "x86" folder and drag and drop all of the files into the Tomb Raider 3 directory too. Now run "dgVoodooCpl.exe" and make sure to click the small button at the top that looks like this: ".\". This will make sure all the settings are saved to your Tomb Raider III directory. Now you configure the settings as you see fit, then make sure to click "apply" and "ok" when your done.

Now you can run the app called "tomb3_ConfigTool" and also configure the settings as you see fit, then make sure to click "save" to save your settings.

Now click on "Launch Setup" and for the last time, configure the settings as you see fit and press save when you're done. I recommend using a 32 bit resolution, FYI.

After that, you can click "Launch tomb3" and it should work. Enjoy.

Your instructions were clear and they have worked perfectly. Thank you so much fellow Londoner.

Only problem is the wife has fallen asleep and she has been watching my current playthrough of the series, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to play! It's Valentines but I'm sure she'll let me play with Lara for a bit too

Thank you I showed my wife in the morning before we went to work and she said "omg it looks so much clearer".

One last question. Is there a way to get the controller recognised via Steam? I use a DualShock 4 with the DS4Windows tool, played around with it a bit before I went to work but couldn't get it recognised.

Or is the only way to do it via a controller to keyboard remapper?

Edit: DS4Windows has a built in remapper, so I have just used that.

I just discovered the forward roll move. I didn't know this existed! I just googled it and looks like a deleted move, I suppose the mods have added it back into game!!!

I find that certain steam titles simply do not load if I have discord running in the background.

I realise it has been some months since the thread was made but I'm at my wits end too, I've copied and moved all the files into the steam game directory and set up the configuration but the game just keeps flickering. Also what did you mean by "MS" folder, I have no idea what that is

When you download dgVoodoo, it comes with 2 folders, one named MS (for DirectX (Microsoft) games) and 3DFX for 3DFX games. Within those are the .DLL files you need to copy to your game’s installation folder, along with dgVoodoo.conf
