Default Tomb Raider J2ME Collection

This is an archive/preservation project of the 2000s Tomb Raider J2ME (Java ME) games and their dedicated Eidos Interactive website pages www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/mobile/

The goal is to have the website pages and all their content for J2ME games ready to be viewed "out of the box". I personally use Flashpoint to browse through everything I have in this archive. But more on that later.

As for the games themselves, the goal is to collect as many clean versions of the games as possible in a single place.
These games came in jar/jad files and had variations between them based on what cellphone they were designed for.
The differences between them could be the in game version number, screen resolution, vibration toggle, in game sounds, main menu sounds, languages etc.

You can find these files floating around the Internet all over the place. But they are not all clean.
What do I mean by that? These .jar files can be modified and hacked. Certain "providers" of these changed the MANIFEST.MF file inside of the .jar so that the title/description/labels of the game have their online nickname or the URL to their website and such.
Some even change the game icons and logos or add their own custom files to the .jar.

I personally curated all of the files in my archive and cleaned everything I could find.
Every modified MANIFEST.MF has been restored to its original state.
Every manually added logo, icon and file has been removed and restored with the original.
If I missed something, do let me know and I will try to fix it.

You can see the date of modification of each file inside the .jar so these were easy to track down. Just required a bit of time to go through everything and hunt them all down all over the Internet.

Holy cow, this is fantastic. I never expected anyone to ever be bothered about these games or even remember them. The amount of work and dedication shown here is really inspiring. Well done!

Believe it or not, but these mobile games were a huge part of my childhood and I have a lot of not-so-fond memories of trying to hunt down the files for these games, and even back then it was to difficult to find ones that were compatible with my phone. I remember specifically having to play the first game in a lower resolution, and it took me ages to find the 3rd game at all - when I eventually did play it, I was surprised it was set in a futuristic (?) castle of sorts

The Legend game was also really elusive to me and I was never able to find the complete version (the fact that there were so many versions was also really confusing). Anniversary was easy (and it's just a collection of the levels from the first 3 java games anyway), and I managed to find and play both the 2D and 3D versions of Underworld

Like I said, lots of memories 😅 On a side note, do you have any information at all of the "interactive TV" games? They were a trilogy of sorts on TV service boxes such as Sky (in the UK). They were also side scrollers. Maybe they have been already made playable and I just don't know. But I always imagined it must be nearly impossible to complile a downloadable collection of these as the format isn't exactly well-known. I wonder if it's at all possible, unless Eidos/Crystal Dynamics or Square or whoever actually have the games archived somewhere and would release them publicly - but even then, I imagine some work would have to be done on them to be playable on a modern computer. Either way, having those released and playable today would truly be another great archiving effort for the series

Among all those games, I only did the 3D version of Underworld and I finished it. It was around 2011, I guess. My very first mobile phone I had was a Nokia (C3 ?) at the end of 2010 so I never played those games before that, which were already unavailable.

Sure, send it my way and I'll check. There is an English version of Osiris Codex out there.
Tomb Raider The Osiris Codex v1.1.3 (128x128)
But it's not clean. It's a modified German version of the game. A person named 'chris' (that's the name added manually in the MANIFEST.MF) added a translated file to that German .jar of the game. MANIFEST.MF was also changed to say that it was Created by: zyx instead of Sun Microsystems Inc.

Once installed it also doesn't have an icon cause it was removed.
And in game not everything is fully translated from what I have seen. Such as the Health bar. It says Gesundheit.

See attached images to see what I mean.

Take a look at this thread for the information gathered on those https://www.tombraiderforums.com/sho...d.php?t=227983

Apocalypse series made by Minds Eye Productions is something we'll probably never get. Unless it leaks one day by some ex dev or something.
The Recoking series made by Denki might still get released as they are active to this day.
Last year they started porting their iTV catalogue to web.
These are the games they converted and made playable again so far
https://sky-gamestar.fandom.com/wiki...Gamestar_games

Sadly the Tomb Raider ones haven't been converted yet and they stopped updating that list a few months ago. Hopefully they'll continue some day.

Wow, congratulations UroshUchiha, amazing job <3

I think I have somewhere clean English version of all 3 Java games, Osiris Codex too - I've played these 3 games on my old Nokia. I will search for them in free time.

Btw, please think about preserving also Relic Run - the version with the music. Is it possible?

That's okay, thank you for checking. It's definitely a playable version of the game. The resolution is sadly only 128x128 and it doesn't have sounds such as jumping, falling, main menu etc. Even the shooting sound is odd.

But yeah, the point of this project is to only get things that are as clean as possible. That one isn't.

I just remembered that in my TR collection of physical media I have a German Premier Collection for TRL which claims to have Elixir Of Life as bonus content. So I loaded the disc but couldn't find it.

Then I translated the text on the manual and from what I gather it's not actually on the disc. You have to send an SMS to a specific number to get your download link. That service is long dead haha. I hoped the game would be on the disc, oh well.

Double post cause I haven't seen this comment prior.
If you could share what you have for me to check and add to the project, that would be cool. Thank you!

As for Relic Run, oof, I got waaay too late into that game. Pretty much when it was already dead. Didn't have a phone that could run it for the longest time.

And I personally only keep the latest version of the game on my drive (v1.11.114) and the modified v1.11.112 that has infinite everything and unlocked everything so I don't have to use the store haha.

So I am not even sure which version is with the music?

Earlier this year I talked to a TR fan who also works on preserving content on Discord (maybe they are on TRF too?) and at the time they were focusing on Android related stuff. So we talked about TRR and Relic Run.

They told me about how Relic Run changed over time from endless runner to level based. How Curses got removed and the Santa Outfit became unavailable as well. And a bunch of other things.

The problem with old Relic Run versions is that apparently once you get the APK of the version, you also need to get that version's obb file. And that was only downloadable through their server. Which no longer provides that.
XAPK format wasn't a thing back then either I think so yeah. Preserving old versions of Relic Run is maybe only possible if someone who has a particular version on their phone can provide the files.
