Alicia Vikander as Lara is a NO. I'm sorry, but no. Her performance in Tomb Raider was very weak. Almost theatrical. No.

Considering you dislike the reboot your answer is not really a surprise...

I'm not a fan of the reboot but I think the movie did it a disservice. It managed to be even worse than the game. It was a terrible adaptation imo.

I have to agree with Lukass and Amunet.
The only thing I enjoyed about the reboot are the comics. The games were okay I guess, but they were bad Tomb Raider games. The movie was just terrible. I collect all sorts of Tomb Raider physical media and my collection is vast at this point, but I refuse to add that movie to my collection. I am glad they cancelled the sequel. |

Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft was horrible. And it has nothing to do with the games, so your reaction is really a surprise.

I'm not sure she'd be an ideal fit for the role at this age, but then... who is, exactly? The larger problem at the moment is that the media landscape is saturated with girlboss action-heroines at this point, to the point where people are getting sick of them. You need something more nuanced. |

I firmly believe that with a relatively well written script and a nice budget, people would definitely pay to see Angelina again as Lara Croft one last time. It is the role that made Angelina rise to fame afterall. She is a different kind of hero compared to those we see from the modern "girl boss action heroines" from these days, she actually has charisma and personality.

She's too busy working on another movie, indie projects and charity

I would say no to Jolie coming back. If those early movies had been gems, fine. They're not though. They're fun for us Lara fans to occasionally slap on (mainly the first one), but they're not good movies. This isn't the same as, say, getting that dude back who played Hellboy to finish what many people think could have been an excellent trilogy.
Vikander did the best of the three movies for me. It felt grittier and more real, although the cheese factor ramped up in the final act, which was slightly disappointing. If I could bring either actress back though it would be Vikander for a sequel to the 2018 film. Seperate topic perhaps, but I'd like to see them tackle the plots of the TR 1-4 games.

Alicia was pretty great. Her presence was really felt on screen. I am sorry that she did not get to be Lara Croft again, in a better movie. She seemed to actually enjoy the part.
It's not her fault that the movie's script was not the best. She did what she could with what she had. To this day, I still can't wrap my head around why they chose to alter the story so much. It would have been so easy to just adapt the original story on the big screen. A crew goes on a search for the mystical island of Yamatai. They get shipwrecked in the Dragon's Triangle. A girl by the name of "Lara Croft" emerges to save them all. During her treacherous exploration of the island she goes from being impaled (by a spike), to surving being kidnapped and potentially abused, to climbing a radio tower, to surving a flaming plane falling unto her, to making her way through cannibal infected caverns, to discovering that there is more to the world than what we know. All of this while mostly being injured. They should have hired a crew of actors to portray all the characters in the game instead of going with "Lu Ren". Which was a decent sddition thanks to the actor portraying him, but useless nonetheless. |
