I played up until the Santuary/Orphanage or whatever.

I've noticed a lot of people praising that mission, and granted I do think it's really good, but to me there are much better offerings like Hunter and Hunted, Terminus, The King of Chinatown, Shaving Lenny, Death Factory, Skurky's Law and Blackwater Park.

^Exactly. I don't see much flaws in this game, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I keep coming back to get the Silent Assassin ratings.

And the Contracts mode is fun, there's many creative fan made levels out there.

And now we come back to what is for me the real star of the show in Absolution… Contracts mode. This mode alone will keep me playing long after the novelty of Purist as worn off. I ventured into Contracts sceptical at first, but now with extended play its simplistic brilliance is undeniable.

It’s almost guaranteed that the first time you create a contract you will do so on the first Mansion level just by blasting through the stage marking your three targets randomly, simple. However, once you start tackling more varied routes of the later stages and using every item at your disposal the true depth of this mode starts to shine, and the slight sandbox-iness of the levels means everyone sets the contracts out slightly different.

You will strive to complete hard contracts too because these pay well, and more money equals better weaponry. Unfortunately the randomness of the contracts selection screen means you never know when a real mind bender is going to surface, and once you start playing it, you are hooked!

A well-paying contract now turns into a brain-bending puzzle as you try get inside the mind of the person who created it. The real masterstroke of this mode is that you don’t have to be a master of the levels to create difficult to solve, high payout contracts. Something simple that you do whilst creating your contract might be the difference between an easy to complete contract or an absolute mind-bender.

Challenging friends to solve your contracts adds more ingenuity to the proceedings because this puts a countdown timer on the contract, giving up to three days for your friends to beat your score.

Whatever negativity it might get from the fans, Hitman: Absolution is a superb title and the Contracts mode for me and my friends is the icing on the cake. It’s not perfect, like I said before and you will notice little faults whilst playing, but there’s an old-fashioned word we used to read on video game reviews that seems to have been lost these days.

I'd buy it most certainly, especially knowing they don't have multiplayer. I can do without Absolution though

Hell would freeze over before i spend coin on it

^It's not so much that the game is flawed, but lacking. Personally, I thought the game was too linear. While the game as a whole wasn't linear, it was still too linear. Not a very memorable title. There are highlights, and good + great moments, but it just didn't come together.

*needs to to finish review of BM*

Just finished Shaving Lenny mission with Silent Assassin rating. Though I accidentally killed Lenny first time. Got Silent Assassin in Hunter & Hunted mission too. Missed in the Rosewood mission just for a little.

Enjoying the game a lot. This is much better than Assassin's Creed III IMO, so kept ACIII hanging in Sequence 10.

Might as well throw Dishonered in there as well

I agree that ACIII and Hitman are very different games. Just like two other series, one of which is very close to our hearts

The game has some fantastic levels and settings, it's just that there are crippling flaws with the overall game that hinder them.

Here's my review, I deleted a lot of my random thoughts, as they would make it TL;RD.

I waited six years…for this?

The design is beautiful and very intricate. The settings, while they keep to Chicago and South Dakota, are varied. They feel authentic. There are plenty of nooks to explore and numerous methods to use to complete your missions; they give you plenty of choices again, which I appreciate. There are environmental things to interact with, whether they are to cause a distraction, or an accidental kill.

Most levels are so linear, that you mind as well run a straight line and be done. Others are more open, but they seem a fifth the size of any Blood Money map. You just have many choices to make along a straight route.

They improve all the animations and general mechanics regarding movement, combat, and the like, but not even that makes up for some of this game’s flaws.

The game can be funny. You can stand too close to a maid, and she will shout for you to get the hell away from her, as she know karate; you can start a bar fight; dress as a chipmunk mascot and go on a killing spree with a katana. There are even strippers with boob physics. One of them says, “I’m actually a dude. See the hair on my lip? Waxing doesn’t work.” It’s quite funny to punch one of these dancers in the head or knee them in the ribs. Oh, violence on women is at its finest! There’s even one “level” (it’s a shop with a basement where you do nothing but put on a new suit) that has several Easter Eggs to Blood Money.

The AI can be so stupid. I was in a crowd and they knew I was the suspect, and they opened fire on me, killing about 2 dozen civilians instead. lol. Extra, extra! “Police murder 20 bystanders while attempting to apprehend ONE suspect!”

The absolute worst thing about this whole game is the suspicion system. It outright ruins to game. It’s incredibly unforgiving. The one in Silent Assassin was the worst one yet, and then this one tops it. Apparently, every enemy personally knows each other, and they suspect you of being an imposter, even if you are 10 meters away. Everyone is overly paranoid that makes the game intolerable at times. You have to use instinct to get passed any similarly dressed enemy, which is really annoying, as you have to keep doing things to refill it the instinct meter.

There are plenty of times where the game feels like Blood Money, but when that suspicion meter gets jumpy, that’s when I start to hate the game. It doesn’t take long for them to identify you as an imposter, either.

Because of this, I had to restart all the time. All the other Hitman games have had a lot of trial and error, but it was fun. This isn’t. Even on Easy, was the game too “hard.” You die easily, and are still easily spotted. Maybe they were being ironic with the Easy difficulty’s name, or perhaps I just was impatient and ended up messing things up. Some of both, I’m sure.

The game's focus is on not being seen at all, rather than hiding in plain sight with some disguise. You will spend much of the time crouch behind some object, sneaking around. It's like if you took elements from Blood Money and Splinter Cell Conviction and you have this game. It's not a good mix.

The levels as I already said, are too small. Even without comparing them to Blood Money or any other Hitman game. The story is boring. The narrative is boring. The cliché twist at the end is boring. It does set up a possible storyline for Hitman 6, though what direction they may take is up in the air, as Absolution leaves on a cliffhanger.

RANDOM OBSERVATION

The game is quite homophobic. Walking by any man or standing too close will cause him to call you a homo or a faggot. There’s even a shooting range competition, and a man comments on how good a shot I am, despite being a fagarino. For a moment, I thought Ned Flanders was in the game.

I was even called a “pretty boy” and asked to “come over here.” I was curious and decided to comply. Except when I got to my admirer, he said something about giving me a knuckle sandwich or some odd generic schoolyard comment. I was disappointed. I thought 47 had finally found true love. Another guy said that I “was cute. Almost too cute.” They are sending mixed signals all over the place.

I am so glad that I rented this from Redbox, instead of actually buying it (it would have cost $60.) Since I beat it in less than 24 hours, it only cost me only $2.19. It took me 12 hours and 36 minutes to beat it. If it weren’t for the suspicion and instinct mechanics, I would be able to look past the bad story and linearity, and might even give this game an 7.5. But for now, I rate this game a 5/10.

You are saying this because AC III is made off with bullcrap history of American Revolution.
