Not a fan of it I'm afraid. Like most custom patches, it just doesn't fit the zeitgeist. And it also looks like the game suffers from a few bugs.

Honestly, a lot of modern day effects don’t work for older games like these in their natural state. Bloom and anti-aliasing might, but that’s it. The blockiness is really what ruins it, I’d say.

This is no raytracing. Just the ugliest ambient occlusion ever

You two porbably haven't seen the "right" old/blocky games with ray tracing then. It looks weird in the video because it's only screen space ray tracing. But look at how it looks in Quake 2 and Minecraft. It makes these games look almost realistic in some places.

It's screen space ray tracing. Ambient occlusion would only make the edges darker and not the surfaces brighter.

Minecraft doesn’t necessarily qualify as an old game per se, at least to me, but you’re right that it can be quite impressive if done right. Those videos are very impressive.

You can call it as you want. But its completely different from ray tracing.

And quake 2 RTX is real raytracing

No, Minecraft isn't that old but certainly very blocky.

I'm not the one who coined that term. It exists for years now.

It depends on how powerful the effect is per game.

I have used this shader on TombATI but it is set to be very subtle. I haven't any screens to show as it is a WIP but it seems to work well. The original TR2 and TR3 engine cannot work with reshade very well as the depth buffer is all messed up, TR4, TRLE (and it more advanced revisions) and TR5 all work (but again no depth buffer), DGVoodoo 2 had a bug with caused objects to flicker but an update a few months back appears to have fixed this.

Other more recent games can look quite beautiful and can look drastically different.

The ray tracing shader also cannot be released yet as currently it is a patreon only shader while it is being developed, it will be made free when complete.
