I'm actually kind of glad that Rise isn't as prevalent to this story from what it seems. If anything this only shows that the unifying is actually starting to occur. Rise wouldn't really add anything to the story considering it was just even more daddy plot lines and Alicia's Lara seems to already have closure with that part of her life. The movie also unified before the games did. If anything I could see this being loosely based on Shadow but less of an end of the world type situation.

Don't know if might be related, but a lot of the old names from IMDB list have been deleted, and we had two new names added: Audra Avery as Art Director, and Christopher Brändström as Concept Artist. Both worked with Misha on Lovecraft Country, so it seems plausible.

Interestingly, of all names deleted, Janine van Assen was not one of them. She is the production unit manager in South Africa, so the movie might still shot over there.

And before people go with the "TR2018 shot there and it didn't look like a japanese island" like a few comments ago, that was because it wasn't supposed to look like one. For some reason they decided to make Yamatai more "generic Pacific island" than a japanese one, and it looked like that. If they wanted a more japanese forest look, they could have achieved that, like they did a convincing Hong Kong harbor, according to Daniel Wu. They can do a South American Jungle there as well.

Now, regarding possible better infrastructures somewhere else, that might be a different story.

It might not be, might still be just production title. Like how Captain Marvel 2 and Black Panther 2 were mentioned by those names, before being officially titled "The Marvels" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever".

I do agree, it would be a good title if they stick with "Obsidian", though. Even if it really is inspired by, but not a full adaptation of SotTR, like we suspect, it can sell that idea that it is overall an original story than if it shared the same name as the game. A problem that TR2018 had, for example.

The magic of movies like Indiana Jones and James Bond is that they travel to real countries. The adventure feels real. If they recreate the locations again, we will feel that that magic has been lost. The best and most remembered thing about the TR movie franchise is still the trip to Cambodia. There is even tourism to see "TR locations" there.

As for South Africa not looking like a Japanese Island because they wanted it to look like a Pacific Island ... sorry but no. It didn't look like a Pacific Island either. It looked like South Africa. It clearly looked like an African island.

Ok but there’s a (worsening) global pandemic.

So it’s literally not possible to do.

Indiana Jones 5 is filming around the world right now. I think that now there are enough protocols and security and vaccines to be able to film exteriors in some countries.

Indy 5 also has all that sweet Disney money, and Tomb Raider still does not have access to Amazon's. And even when it does, it doesn't mean Amazon open the wallet that much anyways...

Pretty sure Indy 5 is only filming in the UK.
