Exclamation Looping audio problem

Hi, I'm making another thread about this because all the ones I have read do not seem to have a clear solution.

Whenever any audio plays in my copy of Tomb Raider 2, it loops indefinitely.

For example if I pick up a jade dragon, the secret chime will play over and over until another audio track is triggered.

This is the no-CD version, and yes I have tried turning the volume down from 10 to 9.

Please help .

Try Arsunt's patch. I can't post a link right now, because I'm on the bus home, but I'm sure someone will.

Which version specifically, and what audio solution is used?

I've never had this loop issue myself, but I'm aware of its existence. Can you not just use Arsunt's patch to rectify this, or do you wish to troubleshoot in general?

I have no idea which version I am using, all the audio tracks are stored as .mp3 files in a folder called 'music'. This is the folder if it helps identify it:
Code:
13.02.2006 23:58 512 000 audiere.dll

Asrunt's patch does not fix this, in fact it causes lots more problems. Music doesn't play at all now, the FMVs no longer play at all, and instead of the title screen with the TRII logo there is instead a completely white screen with the inventory ring. So I have reverted back to my original installation.

Not sure if I'm familiar with the version you're using. I don't see the usual dll's like fmodex and winmm...maybe because it's a different audio solution altogether.

Have you tried these solutions?

I'd recommend trying to get Arsunt's TR2Main patch up and running. Perhaps try with a clean install of the game (consider clearing registry settings for TR2). Avoid using wrappers like dgVoodoo for the time being. Arsunt's patch by default, is designed to use PaulD's audio solution (audio folder with cdaudio.mp3+cdaudio.dat) which Steam uses (you only require the audio folder from TRII.CD.Audio.fix.zip).

As for FMV's, you can use custom ones with Arsunt's patch:
The ExtraOptions folder can enable more features via reg entries.

I downloaded PaulD's audio patch (cdaudio.mp3+cdaudio.dat) and it fixed the problem, thank you .

Edit: this was for the original installation, Asrunt’s patch still does not work at all.

In what way does it not work? Is dgVoodoo linked with TR2? Have you tried without it? There are other dll files present in your game directory that could be influencing the patch...I've heard that ddraw.dll can break things. For test purposes, make sure that the only dll's present in the game folder are ffplay and TR2Main. Also ensure that no compatibility modes have been enabled for the Tomb2.exe. If one has been set previously within the current game folder, the created registry entries will probably still exist, and a file with the same name (Tomb2.exe) and in the same folder could still be using whatever compatibility was previously set.

You'll be missing out on a bunch of cool features if you can't get this running, such as PlayStation reflections and semitransparent visual effects, glow effects, custom water colours, support for resolutions higher than 2048x2048, remastered pictures and loading screens support, settings for inventory/underwater music and much more!

TR2 Gold is also supported through Arsunt's TR2Main. Instructions here.

Generally, there are no problems with TR2Main itself, but problems may be produced by other patches or Windows application compatibility mode (you don't need them with TR2Main, it breaks everything instead). To clean your game from everything wrong, just try one experiment:

1) Create some folder on your desktop (you may call it TR2test or whatever)
2) Unpack TR2Main archive into this folder
3) Copy audio, data, fmv (just three folders, not anymore) from your game folder into your TR2test folder.
4) Run Tomb2.exe from your TR2test folder.
5) If TR2Main works now, you can enable some additional features from ExtraOptions folder (see instructions)

I did a clean install of Tomb Raider 2 in a separate folder with just the following files, and Asrunt's patch worked.

Code:
14.09.2020 09:35 <DIR> audio
29.05.2020 18:14 <DIR> data
17.02.2018 08:51 <DIR> ExtraOptions
24.07.2018 23:24 20 373 006 ffplay.dll
14.09.2020 09:35 <DIR> fmv
29.05.2020 18:14 <DIR> pix
24.07.2018 05:29 914 432 Tomb2.exe
14.09.2020 09:36 1 110 tomb2.exe -setup.lnk
05.11.1997 14:41 5 340 tombpc.dat
02.09.2020 07:44 526 336 TR2Main.dll
06.08.2020 00:13 16 129 TR2Main.json
10.08.2016 10:38 81 768 xinput1_3.dll
Although there's now further complications. The frame rate drops very often when using this patch (this is a simple lightweight laptop with integrated graphics that I am using), whereas without it I get consistent 30. Also the extra options do not seem to register correctly, I disabled 'RemasteredPix' but straight away I can see that hasn't worked because legal screen is not the original.

Apart from deinterlaced FMVs, there's not really any reason to use this patch so I'll just stick to the original. Thanks for all your troubleshooting and help .

Hmm, strange. This is unacceptable, I understand. I'll investigate and fix it.
Are you sure you have triple buffer disabled? It works wrong with DirectX 5.

There are two "original" title screens. They can be selected by one of two REG files: PictureLogoEU or PictureLogoUS.
Also you can delete whole PIX folder, if you want to use pictures from DATA folder only.

If you don't mind the original game bugs, or if you don't care about PS1 features, maybe. It's your right.
But there are a lot features and bugfixes, and it's developed every week.
