red_lion's level fixes for AoD
Hi all,
After Nakamichi680 has left Tomb Raider Forums and left us his archive, I decided to fix some of the many errors in the levels. With some of his tools I was able to make textures double sided or change them. This post is to share my files. My intention is to: - Fix most of the bugs in the levels. I don't have the knowledge to fix all of them. But I'll try my best. - Replace the pictures with slightly larger pictures found else in the data files to improve the gameplay. - Replace posters and or artwork (like paintings) with larger versions found on the internet. - To remain the original look of AoD. - Keeping a log what has been changed. This project is not: - High resolution project of AoD. - hexediting (don't know much about it) - fixing OBJ files (don't know much about OBJ files correcting) - A project to place somewhere the double guns. Levels * PARIS1A - Derelict apartment block * PARIS1B - Margot Carvier's Apartment * PARIS1C - Industrial rooftops * PARIS2B - Le Serpent Rouge * PARIS2C - Rennes' Pawnshop * PARIS2D - The Willowtree Herbalist Last edited by red_lion; 01-05-21 at 18:58. |

Does your modified PARIS1A.GMX.CLZ include all the previous fixes made by Nakamichi?

PARIS1A - Derelict apartment block
Note: Nakamichi680 has fixed most of the errors. ISSUES that I couldn't fix: 1. The box needs to be spin around 360 degrees (picture 1) 2. The back of the 'wheel cap' is transparent (picture 2) Pictures 1 and 2 REPLACEMENTS 1. Replaced the four paintings (Pictures 3,4,5,6) with higher resolution ones. This is 53.dds. Original it was 256x256, now 1024x1024 2. Replaced the cover of a book of Glass works (Picture 7) with a higher resolution one. 3. Replaced the RPM motor oil with a hgiher resolution one from the Serpent Rouge level. Original was 64x64 new one is 256x256. Pictures 3,4,5,6 Picture 7 and 8 Download: PARIS1A.GMX.CLZ Yes, of course. Without previous fixes of Nakamichi I would also do his job he already did. And Nakamichi680 did use methods I don't understand (yet). All my future level fixes would be built upon the fixes Nakamichi did. Last edited by red_lion; 16-03-21 at 07:32. |

Hi red_lion, thanks for all the hard work and dedication to improve AOD. It's good to see someone else else appreciating the beauty and potential of this game. I don't want to sound disrespectful, but I've already done all the work you mention here for my HD remaster and much much more. My remaster is also built upon Slayer's best level files and nakamichi's level fixes. I then not only injected HD textures into the level files, but I also fix as many remaining glitches as possible with the tools we have now and I also improved the look of the levels as much as possible by adding glow maps, adding reflections and changing other material properties. Lastly I keep track of and document the remaining geometry glitches very carefully so that they hopefully can be fixed by nakamichi or someone else who will be able to edit level geometry one day.
I would hate for you to do the same work twice. I'm dedicated to finish my HD remaster this or next year and I'm working on it at a moderst steady rate. I feel this year, with the celebrations and all, is te perfect year to finally finish it. Last edited by TRJTA; 10-03-21 at 08:10. |

Oh this looks like an interesting thread. I like that you're updating the wall paintings to a higher resolution which looks good already. Is the oil tin can texture a larger picture you've found elsewhere in the data files?

I worked on my level fixes a few weeks in my spare time and I want to publish what has been done. To share it because it would be lost somewhere. It's a small share by me. Last edited by red_lion; 14-03-21 at 15:55. |

That's actually a great question.
I'd personally love if there is an option just to get the fixes without these HD textures. No disrespect to anyones hard work but the majority of these HD texture projects I've seen in the TR community are not my cup of tea. They always look either too cartoony or just out of place and I have a feeling the same will be with this AOD HD project. Just give me the fixes |
