Default Classic Style Asset Building Competition - Thoughts?

I’m not planning anything (pleeeeeease don’t assume I am lol), but I’m quite curious if anyone would be interested in a building competition if the assets were classic in aesthetics, rather than higher fidelity as BTB has been in recent years.

Higher fidelity assets can take a lot more time to produce than classic assets and we’re able to get more out of a smaller fidelity assets. Would anyone genuinely be bothered by this or would you be open to it?

All pros and cons are welcome and a discussion about it would be interesting. All opinions are welcome.

Yes - totally open for it! As you said it's easier to create tons of low-poly objects and textures instead of high fidelity assets. It's also easier to make the whole set of assets more coherent, cause there are levelsets which mix too many different quality objects sometimes. So yeah, such a competition would be nice someday.

I've noticed a lot more low poly classic levels being released in recent years - it's fair to say that anyone still playing TR1-5 these days or the LE for that matter does not mind low poly levels at all. Nostalgia for old games is pretty strong.

If your suggesting new settings in the TR1-5 style that would be very interesting. Sort of like what TR Gold did?

I was thinking about this today randomly, but just in general, outside the TRLE section, for 90s or 00s polycount objects.

I might be inclined to participate if the opening post has information on the object vertex and faces limit... <3 Love this idea

I could participate in making some assets too - if someone wants to suggest a theme.

I would consider contributing. I'm doing a lot of this for my current project so it would vibe well with the other stuff I'm working on.

I love the idea. We really need more quality classic assets. There's too much stuff that's either wonky retex, old stuff with 256x256 textures or quality but next-gen stuff.

Imagine some sort of downgrading PS2 assets to TR4/5 quality. Like TRAOD or Legend stuff but in TR4 aesthetics. I'd love that. A demake.
