[PC] Beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow DLC Pack
Hey guys!
I created this thread to (maybe) get the Tomb Raider Underworld's DLC Packs to PC! How?! Well a few years ago some guys start a project to convert the game but the project was abandoned! One of then, dimosz, work in few things after all! I'll post here all the progress made and what I think that can be done to make the dream of get this DLC Packs to PC! Here is the link of the post that shows that the DLC's Menu are existant and fully functional: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/show...33&postcount=1 Many people said that this is impossible but this same member said here that he already made this onetime in the past: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/show...6&postcount=22 In that time or us was impossible to change any thing in the bigfiles, but today we already have a tool to translate the game to any language! Here is some tools that other member did to help in the project: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/show...2&postcount=40 They find a way to convert the images from the Xbox 360 Pack (with some bad results): http://www.tombraiderforums.com/show...178907&page=14 You can look the full thread with other things like the codes and etc here: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=178907 After all that I talked with dimosz about these and look what he says: "Hi! First of all, I didn't said that i'm cancelling the project. I said that i'm willing to put this work on the backround since it doesn't bring me any money. So, this project gains for me the less priority. Secondly, I don't have the sensation that there is a team which work together. All my researches I've done alone, by my own. So why I should share my applications and my cool ideas with the persons who didn't make any contribution to this project (financial or intelectual). Third: I can say that this project is still in a development, so I've didn't quit the work on my apps. There are good results on much sides. For example, I've finally cracked the ATI XENOS GPU swizzle/unswizzle algo (it is very complicated, indeed). Here is the proof: And, of course, this isn't all. So, this project will have rather a commercial aspect than public." And after this mensage the bad news: "Hello! Sorry dude, i'm not intereseted in this project development. Besides, who will pay me, let's say, $200 for this DLC? The answer is - NO ONE!" And what I think that can be done: Or someone remake the game in UDK or we can make a tem to continue this project, someone find a way to bring dimosz to the forum and find more people to help! I think that sephiroth99 the creater of translatr (Tomb Raider translation tool) is a good person to call, he already was involved with the project I guess and what is impossible before he made the tool to translate the game here is the thread of translatr (Tomb Raider translation tool): http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=192774 To finish what have to be done: -Now that we know more about the files from the game we can use the same system used in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light! They were trying to inject the Xbox files in PC's bigfiles but I think that we can convert the files to PC and make Pack files like in LCGoL and find a way that make this work as the menu and all the other things from the DLC are existant and fully functional in the PC files! Who is with me?! Last edited by Reginaldo_Proc; 08-03-13 at 21:54. |

Anything to tell Micro$oft where they can shove their exclusivity agreement. |

I will certainly support you and him in any way possible would love to see this work in the PC. Keep us posted. It if is a mod with no copyright to any of the contents other than that of the original developers...and all right reserved to the original game developer..then we may be ok.... as a fan mod.

I am very respectful of rights, as a professional artist myself, i would not want to do anything that is not correct ..i was just hoping for a mod similar to other game mods that are done with the rights intact,..such as the TRLE which is such a great help to us all for making new levels, and the outfit editors and the fly patch...... I will remain hopeful.

For the sake of preservation i hope this can be done, who knows how long MS will keep the current Live service running when the new console launches, and since the DLC is linked to an online account when the service goes down the DLC becomes unplayable and lost. So, in that regard, to heck with respecting rights.

As much as I would love to see this DLC on PC, I doubt it'll be done if it's author thinks mainly about financial benefits. I mean, I'd be more than willing to pay if it was done and ready to download just like Glidos, but I understand the author wants it to work the opposite way - that is we must pay first so he'll work, yes? Also it's rather illegal to have any benefit from something that isn't 100% yours.

That also gets me wondering why we have to pay Glidos just to get that stupid logo off the screen. Isn't that making money over someone else's IP? (Tomb Raider, Freelancer, etc)
I thought these projects were supposed to be free and supportive of their community, not bribing them with the mentality of a bridge troll. |

About the paying: Glidos is emulating old hardware and doesn't fiddle around with the TR I files or even makes it possible to play TR I without buying the game. So it's okay to ask for money for removing the logo since no copyright is attacked. But asking for money for a mod like this is illegal since you make money with files you don't own. And it's double worse because the files don't only belong to Crystal Dynamics but also to Microsoft. |
