after what you yourself proved suitable before at this point I'm left wondering whether it would be wiser for me to drop the =auto setting for good (though ironically it's fine with me, but it looks like not many people are happy with that ) recompiling the conf's takes nothing, the problem is what to default to since it is such a heavily hardware dependent thing I can't be sure that cycles=fixed 40000 for TRUB and =fixed 50000 or even 75000 for TRI (having been dependable former defaults for years) are really the best figures to resort to now for most machines of course anyone can adjust them anytime, but when it comes to picking a given wholesale starting point, what do you say? Difficult to say. Would =75000 be stable for both games?

matter of fact the good old cycles=fixed 40000 for TRUB and =fixed 50000 for TRI tradeoff happened to follow a series of tests with different hardware packages so it still makes more sense, as it used to
otoh I'm sure 75000 was too much for many, and that TRI and UB don't go with the same figures, slightly different game engines as they are and probably I'll have to fall back on that 40000/50000 compromise. |

I've made a small patch here:
https://dl.tombraiderhub.com/Patchv1782.zip to simply and automatically adjust the TR1/UB configuration according to the settings that hopefully fix the reported freezes tbh I'm still cautious about making those changes the all-purpose figures, as I got a new pc lately and just like with the older one I couldn't reproduce the crashes using the =auto value. |

I have a problem with authorising my original Tomb Raider CD very first PC version from 1996 (distributed in Poland) - any ideas how to fix this?

thanks for your interest
well, fixable, it surely is no doubt about it by all means I have an idea, but since that bug arguably stems from a localized layout of the setup, it would be helpful if you could provide a simple schematic of the folder arrangement and names on your cdrom I wonder, might there be a font mismatch (just guessing)? I'd go for a plain naming difference from the English version anyway no big deal so, if you can give me a dir command output, or a screenshot of the cdrom contents in explorer I'll be glad to send you a countermeasure EDIT if you aren't that confortable pointing me to the folder layout, just send me a PM and I'll guide you through to the detection of the issue. Please find enclosed under the link below. I think that even though it was bought in Poland, it is just normal English version with no localisation files included. Everything was in English when I was initially plaing it as a kid Pictures of CD content and CD image attached.

Fine

at this moment my guess is TRI has never been installed yet on that single pc
you ought to have it installed to begin with if you try it out eg running manually autorun.inf or install.bat straight from the cdrom and for one of the many possible reasons it won't budge and won't let you perform a minimal installation, you let me know I can think of a simple fix, precisely for the case of troublesome install (of the game, not of the installer itself ) and I'll send you the needed info, preferably via PM based on that it all ought to be definitely sorted out quickly Last edited by gidierre; 02-11-20 at 23:20. |
