I swear there was a thread already, or it could have been my imagination . Anyhoo, a search didn't bring up anything.

Yeah, I watched and enjoyed the first season. It's eerie and sometimes scary, but, imo, not too much so. I'm not a horror fan and I was worried it would be too horror. Instead, there's mystery and intrigue and characters you can care about. I am looking forward to season two. I believe it's coming in the autumn, October/November? Edit: just saw Chamayoo's post.

Well I searched too and didn't find any thread. I wouldn't make a thread if there was another one. Did you take me for an amateur, Rai ?

Yeah it's not too scary and the plot is great. And the characters were amazing. My favourite was definitely Joyce that was hilarious tbh !

One of the best original and well written series. It's up there with Game of Thrones in my favourite tv series of all time.

All those kid actors are amazing.

This was such a hit and miss series for me.

Pros:

- A brilliant all round performance from the majority of the cast.
- Excellent dialogue and engaging characters.
- Brilliant first episode and last few episodes.
- The best modern TV soundtrack going, literally incredible.
- Brilliant effects for a Netflix production.

Cons:

- Sagged majorly in the middle.
- Unsatisfying finale to the first season.
- Winona Ryder gave an appalling performance in places, she's like an acting wardrobe.

^ I honestly wonder what your thoughts are on the second season then

I just finished watching it.

It's more intense than the first one and that's not always good. I would risk saying it's more often for worse than for the better. The first season had the advantage of being wrapped in mystery. It took it's time to build up, it was taking us into the unknown, there was a genuine feeling of being lost and searching for answers. This is mostly missing in season 2. The cards are all on the table and except for the first episode where I genuinely felt frightened when Will was seeing into the upside down (the monster on the horizon is executed really well, it's very suggestive for a nightmarish vision of a kid), I mostly thought I was watching a strange (!) mix of horror and kid adventure movie that attempts to pay homage to cinema classics and make a story out of it along the way.

Though I also Will's story was successful in the way that genuinely felt sorry for him, seeing what his character goes through is quite nerve-wracking, somehow this part of the show's storyline feels the most genuine and real, for the lack of a better word. It seems that the kid actors had significantly less exposure in this season compared to the first one, if you think of bike-riding scenes, which were such a key image before, they're almost non-existent this time; dialogues are shorter, a lot of the time the kid characters are separated (not to mention El).

My biggest problem with the show was always with the idea that there's a "door to a different dimension" opening up in a building where a country's energy department has their local facility situated (and they were doing experiments with kids on top of it all?) and somehow they manage to keep it to themselves without the FBI, CIA and other mysterious men in suits getting involved - this is taken to a whole new level in season 2, but I guess that's just one of the things where the show needs you to suspend your disbelief.

Outside the famous episode 7 (emo El), I personally believe that the show managed to give meaningful substance in fact. Very few "second season" manage to be interesting because it often feels like the producers are "stretching" and "improvising" the storyline.

With Stranger Things, you kinda feel like they planed stuffs in advance. I think it was even confirmed that they have a maximum of 4 seasons planed.

Of course, nothing will ever replace the mystery of the first season. That's not the role of subsequent seasons. Their role is to build onto the first season and they did.

They definitely knew where they will be taking the storyline, although I know feel the season should have had more episodes for better pacing and build up.
