Will never understand the love for Rice tbh. It's an okay game, sure, but it just feels so recycled after TR2013. Shadow feels so different compared to it.

If I am to look at aside from my personal love for it, I think it's because to the general public it had what both 2013 & Shadow had only in a fairly balanced fashion, in which no aspect feels like an overkill (it doesn't have 2013's amount of combat and set-pieces nor Shadow's very little combat and Paititi, to name a few), plus having the best polish, graphics and overall production values of the three.

![]() However I'm not for a Rise/Shadow confrontation again, I like them both almost equally. Anyway, personally I find the first one to be the most flawed of this trilogy.

I hate that we have to refer to the Survivor trilogy as a trilogy. Very little in it actually works as a trilogy with one cohesive story arc.
LAU is a proper trilogy due to the Natla/Mother/Atlantis/Avalon arc. Even TR4/5/AOD is weakly and unintentionally a trilogy because of Lara and her relationship with Von Croy. The only thing that properly connects the Survivor Trilogy is Camilla, Jonah, the bow, the pickaxe, and gameplay style. Story-wise there is major disconnect. Trinity is a minor easter egg that doesn't play a part of the main story in TR2013. Then Trinity in Rise is entirely different from Trinity in Shadow. Lara discovers Konstantin killed her father; but then in Shadow she discovers it was Dominguez. One overarching villain would've helped. Discovering Mathias used to work for Trinity also would've helped somewhat. The final chapter of a trilogy (Shadow) should always somehow connect us back to the first chapter (TR2013). It sadly didn't. You can't really appreciate AOD without playing TR4/5. You definitely can't appreciate TRU without playing TRA and TRL. But with the Survivor "trilogy" you can play Rise or Shadow without playing any of the others and get just as much or as little out of it. Besides cosmetic appearance, they don't form a unified whole. |

I would say there is some slight connection with 2013 and Rise.
At the end of 2013 Lara says she now knows that a lot of the stuff her father mentioned could now actually be real given her experience on the island. Then in Rise she's going through her father's research to actually discover which myths he talked about are real and which aren't. But Shadow is the strange one because there was no build up to Mexico.

I feel like both games were pretty solid but Rise offered more good than bad when compared to shadow in my opinion. |

I love that moment in TR3 when you get your guns back in the high security compound and then you run up that one hallway and the TR3 theme starts playing with a bunch of baddies.
It's that "I'm back back back again bitches" moment that always gives me life.
