A while ago I posted a photo of Tank Girl comics (the new ones) on Twitter and some random guy commented that I should put them into sheet protectors. Like... why would I want to do that? I want to read them, not display them in a museum. |

I’d like to chip in just to say not all people that collect things and keep them sealed are scalpers. I buy two of some things because i love the idea of preserving something I like which might be strange to some but it’s not to resell for 10x the retail price, more a hobby.
The fault lies in the manufacturer, like why only produce a such a limited amount of something? I doubt the archives books are super duper popular to everyday consumers anyway so I find it a bit strange. For the record I don’t own any. |

Of course not all collectors are the same. But years ago I made some bad experiences with a collector. We were both active on the German Eidos forum and this guy constantly boasted with his new acquisitions. And sometimes he would keep things in the packaging, even if it was the most basic, boring box ever. Once I asked him where he gets most of his stuff because it didn't seem to be from eBay and he refused to tell me! And it's not that he just ignored me, but he did answer that he didn't want to tell. Also, at one point he offered a piece of TR merchandise (I think that it was a backpack) in exchange for something else. I offered him a TRA promo poster which at this point was probably pretty rare (I got a few of these posters from an electronics store when TRA was new and they hung up advertising material). He denied and months later he suddenly had interest in the poster and offered me money for it. But after that guy annoyed me so many times, I denied to sell the poster. Years later I gave those posters away to friends because I don't believe in asking for money for something that has never been available for purchase (those promo posters were given to stores and not officially sold anywhere).
Ever since then I'm wary of collectors. Yes, not all of them are the same, the admin of that old German Eidos forum, GoranAgar (he can be seen in the documentary on the TRA bonus DVD), was also a collector but every now and then he gave some of his stuff away for reasonable prices and sometimes even for free. Also he never boasted about his collection the same way that other collector did. And yes, things being produced in limited quantities is the biggest problem. I feel like Tomb Raider in particular is a franchise where this is a huge problem. Last year Limited Run Games announced that they'll produce a Doom helmet that looks like the one from Doom 1 and 2. Due to my bad experiences with TR merch being sold out pretty fast, I pre-ordered the helmet from Limited Run Games, only to later learn that I could also get it from Bethesda Europe which would've been much cheaper (especially because of shipping costs). You're right about some collectors - I was interested in a specific edition of a Resident Evil game a couple of months ago and I offered a certain amount for it (still double the retail price) and he replied saying that after checking other prices on eBay for the same item, I'm lucky he doesn't UP the price (the other prices were stupid and no one has paid for it still to this day) and that if I don't buy his item within 24 hours he's going to increase the price. Stupidly, I gave in because addiction got the better of me. |

I have to say I have a problem with collectors who have those magnificiant pieces of artworks or scripts and doesn't bother to scan it to share them to the fandome.
For me some are just selfish. Also I can't stand peoples who buy the same rare object more than 3 times. One collector is buying a lot of Tonner action figures of Lara (I think he have more than 20 now) and we talked together about this and he said it was his collection and he didn't avoid peoples from buying it before him. Anyway it's all about attitude. If I have a script or a screenplay I immediatly scan them and make a full link for the fans. In my opinion no pieces of art or text writing should be keept by only one person they deserved to be shared. |

This! Especially when it's informative texts that are out of print, then everyone should be able to read them. |

It took me 6+ months to catch TR Archives 3 and 4 for reasonable prices on Ebay back in 2019. Still #3 arrived with a corrupted cover as the seller didn't pack it well. So, I would be glad to buy a new one. And on a fluke a guy from my town was selling issues 1 and 2 for a retail price in nearly new condition. But such case is an exception to the rule that in general TR collectibles are rare, hard to find and pricy. I'm looking at every new Gaming Heads Lara statue and literally crying. And I would like to step in and to say about fans who own some rare printed merchandise and do not scan it. That thing makes me appreciate even more work of those individuals who actually do share stuff. Like Ash, for example. And I wish Rodrigo from TR collection could scan some printed stuff as well. I'm just saying. |

A while ago I signed up to get a notification in case that the TR Archives are available at the German online shop Medimops that sells used books, movies, music, games etc. Today I finally got an e-mail notification (totally forgot that I set this up) and they had exactly one copy of every TR Archives book for reasonable prices (less than retail)! Of course I ordered them immediately (sorry ). That being said I suggest signing up for such waiting lists on online shops like this that deal with used stuff. I've ordered a lot of times from Medimops and their stuff is always in great condition, so I don't worry about the books' quality, even though they're used.
