Embracer Group has Bought Tomb Raider along with other franchises for 300 Million
https://embracer.com/release/embrace...-other-assets/
Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”) has entered into an agreement to acquire the development studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (“Square Enix Holdings”). In total, the acquisition includes ~1,100 employees across three studios and eight global locations. The total purchase price amounts to USD 300 million on a cash and debt free basis, to be paid in full at closing. Embracer has secured additional long-term debt funding commitments for this and other transactions in the pipeline. --------------------------------------------------- Square Enix says the transaction (which was only $300 million) "enables the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud." https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/n...elease_fin.pdf https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1521017861803704321 --------------------------------------------------- Opinion on topic. Its kinda sad how SE undervalues their western studios. Honestly 300million is undervalued. Also sold it to invest in crypto lmao. Here come NFTs in their games. At least avoided that nightmare of ruining this franchise even more. Last edited by Kristijan1001; 02-05-22 at 07:24. |

God, $300m is a ridiculous steal of a bargain. At that price Square Enix should've just given the development teams and IPs for free to Embracer.
It should be noted that at least with this sale there is no chance of the franchise being bought by Sony or Microsoft and Tomb Raider will remain multi-platform. I know there was an inkling of fear of the franchise being made exclusive with Sony and Microsoft going on a spending spree recently. |

I honestly did not see this coming and am quite surprised for some reason. Though, I am glad. Square Enix has really neglected Tomb Raider and its other western IP's. I hope Embracer Group embraces Tomb Raider much more than Square Enix.
Apparently, the acquisition was done to help SE invest in blockchain/NFT's lol $300M for all those studios and IP's seems pretty low though... I'd expect Tomb Raider alone to be sold at that price. Last edited by CrowdedToaster; 02-05-22 at 07:29. |

Yes I think that's the biggest win. Hopefully Embracer Group will allow creative freedom for their studios. I still didn't expect a sale so soon though.

SE is a lost cause. But this was still kinda unexpected for me.
I am simply not sure what can we expect in the future and will TR and Lara ever get to shine again. |

This can only be a good thing from my perspective. Square has only been failing recently and Embracer Group surely (?) can't do worse for TR than what was done with the IP with the latest reboot trilogy and the TRR mobile game.
