I had similar problems some weeks ago with files not loading but I can't remember if this was one of them.
Anyway, in my case the whole folder was set to "read only" for some reason.
No idea how it got that way but I unticked that option in the properties and all was well again.

My level keeps crashing every time I enter it.
I loaded to an earlier version of my prj and it still works! But I put a lot of work on it so I cannot really go back.

^ what was the very last thing you changed?

I'd start looking from there. If you changed some object or added something try to change it back how it was before the issue.

I backed up and prj and deleted every new room I made, it still keeps crashing.
The only thing I did is build geometry, texture, added objects.
I did not change anything in the old rooms.
EDIT:
I started building on an old prj.
It's going fine now.

Okay. It's good that you had some backups

I think the problem might have been caused because some lightbulb or similar object was in a room while you deleted rooms... The cause could be almost anything. Sometimes these crashes can be really cryptic...

Random question, but it can cause this - do you have Font.pc in your graphics/wads folder? If it's missing, the level will crash.

Whoops, the section wasn't marked 'unread', I haven't seen that there was a reply.
The 'Write protected' box is ticked for the folders, and it can't be unticked. It's the same with the old LE folders, it's in the same place, but conversion works perfectly there. It's the NG converter that fails to load the .tom file.

Edit: I figured that the title level gets converted, but my actual level doesn't! I've tried loading earlier projects, a very early one converted fine, but the new ones just won't. I'd lose a lot of progress this way, I just can't figure out why it doesn't work! Going to keep trying...

Edit2: Woah. I deleted two unused rooms and it was fine again. I hope it wasn't caused by some limit again, the level isn't even at 40% done or something. *phew* - for now

How can I make a fully functioning diary?
I followed a tutorial. (basically copied everything in it and put it in my TRLE folder which is supposed to work)

You'll need to be a bit more specific.
What have you done exactly?
How is it not fully working?

I used the wad, the script, the pix and textures presented in the official tutorial.
I found the diary object in the wad and placed it in the level. (because it wasn't in Lara's inventory when i started first)
I get to a point in the tutorial level where it says "Lara wrote something in her diary".
I go to the diary and "use" it, the inventory just exits.
I don't get what I did wrong.

So the objects are present.
I'm guessing it is something script related then.

I'm assuming you did rebuild the script with NG-Center after adding the lines?
(Makes sense to do this ofcourse but in case it was forgotten. Happens to the best.)
When rebuilding the script, you are not getting any errors in it?
