I agree. However, I never finished the game as the final segment was so poorly designed. If I remember correctly there was some sort of long unskippable cut scence, maybe a gameplay segment and then a random chase through a maze which was trial and error. However, if you failed you had to endure the aforementioned elements each time. I got fed up after all the previous negatives I'd endured to get there and rage quit... one of the only games that's happened with for me. The other being Clock Tower 3 and, ironically another Konami game, MGS5.

Ironically using fog to obscure areas has long been a way to disguise loading in areas and items yet silent hill downpour, a game in a series in which it is completely acceptable to reduce visibility through fog, didn't manage to do this.
I agree, the game had so much potential. Aside from all the bugs and glitches there were poor developer choices too.
The worst being the black hole enemy thing, I hated that.

I was not suggesting fans are remaking the game
It's clear the creator simply did an environmental remake just to show off what could be.

Also just making a hd remake of one of the rooms of SH 1 isn't equal to making a remake.

God, SH 1 reminds me of getting the bad ending of it in my only playthrough which felt like an insult from the game developers to me.(I played in hard difficulty only to beat it and get this ending that "It was a dream")

Also SH 4's worst ending is also pretty annoying.(Just imagine how many of 1st time SH players left the franchise when they got that ending in their only playthrough.)

Silent Hill 4 in general is pretty terrible though so, not surprised really I'm never surprised there were rumours the game was initially Team Silent's attempts to move away from Silent Hill but Konami made them include it in the canon. It's so disjointed from the other three.

What are your SH good-worst lists? Mine is

1. Silent Hill 3
2. Silent Hill 2
3. Silent Hill 1
4. Origins
5. Homecoming
6. Downpour
7. Pachinko games
8. SH4
8. Shattered Memories
