Default What Was In the Box?

In exchange for valuable information on Bouchard who may have information linked to Werner's death, Lara must infiltrate the guard-infested Serpent Rough to retrieve a mysterious box for either Pierre or Bernard (or the doorman). The item is considered valuable, with three people and likely others eager to get their hands on it. Both Pierre and Bernard adamantly claim the box as theirs. In the end, Lara hands over the cryptic box and we never see what's actually inside. It's likely that the box had some precious jewelry in it that could be pawned for cash which seems a bit silly considering there's cash lying around practically on every street corner, but what are some other possible theories you had? Could the item be sentimental, or were they just after the money? Why were they both hell-bent on getting it back? Could this have stemmed from a falling out among the workers?

Or maybe...

Embarrassing Christmas photos?

If I remember correctly, the box had its own story and eventually we would've ended up knowing its content.

Maybe try to contact ashka, he could direct you to the relevant interview with Murti...

I don't know why, but this topic reminded me of that Chinese movie that was about a box which had some supernatural powers.(I think a guy opened that and was turned into a monster.)

The heroes brought the box inside the wall of china, defeated that monster guy, an emperor of china talked to them then the movie ended.

That's all I remember about it since I was a child when I saw some parts of it on TV.

The box can be sold to:
- the ex-bartender of Le Serpent Rouge, the owner of Café metro
- the ex-janitor,
- the bodyguard of mr. Bouchard.

AFAICR, the box was meant as an easter egg for a movie. It was probably mentioned in the design documents.

I think you’re wrong, %51. The game doesn’t allow you to sell story-related items (like the box, keys, notes) to the pawnbroker.......

Yeah I recall reading something about it being a Pulp Fiction reference, complete with Lara opening it and being lit up with gold light (player can't see inside the box). So the contents were always meant to be unknown.

However I can't find any references to it in Murti's notes or the game documents I have so I've no idea where I read it. Some of the concepts mention Lara retrieving cash from the club though so it was probably just money.

Well there is a regular money pick-up in the game in that level.

If I had to really provide a head-canon maybe it was something Eckhardt (or Karel disguised as Eckhardt) forced him to keep safe considering the heavy gun-man presence inside the building.
