First, the character isn't bland at all, and so many have made posts proving that that me doing one more would be a waste of time because at this time no one would have their minds changed about that or not.

Second, we are getting movies like Monster Hunter that basically only has a following in Japan, and we got a Rampage movie, when the franchise hasn't even been relevant in what, 30 years? Logic doesn't really follow movie producers in that case. If the first game was successful, making a "Island Escape" movie would seem as probable as making a, I dunno, "Fortnite" movie (which quite frankly, I do not know how it still wasn't announced).

And third, even if "Annie Jones" was so bland that makes "vanilla" seem like an exotic flavour, considering all the blockbuster franchises out there with bland main female characters (Twilight and Fifty Shades say hello, and they are not the only examples), I don't think a bland main character would even be that much of a problem.

I'd be down for that, I have changed my mind about other characters. Maybe when I replay the reboot trilogy I'll see the games with a different perspective lol, but I just finished Shadow and damn that Lara needed more salt which alongside the easy tombs is my biggeset/only gripe with the recent entries.

Monster Hunter is an iconic saga and the last entry is Capcom's best seller, including Resident Evil saga which is her most famous one. Rampage is a classic, it plays with nostalgia so I can see why they made a movie. Stories like Twilight and 50 were trendy back then, they are not anymore, and their demographic is way different. The rest of the films and generic stories that came afterwards basically had 0 relevance and no one remembers them (just like Reboot is an answer to a trend). Anyway, their books had something that attracted an audience that were not even average readers (fantasies with hot men, I guess. And approaching BDSM in a family-friendly way that didn't scare those Karens). I don't see the Reboot having that something, only the 2013 one but after that it all went meh even though the quality of the gameplay improved. It needed more in order to be remarkable for gaming history.

We will see in a couple of years, but I firmly believe that no one will remember the new Lara as much as the Classic did. And it's not because the ClASsIcS weRe BetTer (as we've seen that impact doesn't have to be always directed to quality), but they had something that the reboot lacked.

Novelty, and a main character that fit perfectly into the pop culture of that time.
You couldn't create such an impactful character these days without violating the feelings of a thousand people (and bloggers). CD/SE chose to take the safe route instead - which might be seen as admirable as they explicitely did not want to rely on sexualization of their version of Lara. Unfortunately they took it so far, that their main character now doesn't really feature anything out-of-the-ordinary or interesting (except for a very questionable hairstyle), that makes her stand out from the crowd of these days' video game characters.

Screw those bloggers and their feelings. They obviously were never Tomb Raider fans in the first place, they didn't support the franchise financially, so they don't have a say in what happens to it. It's (should be) as simple as that.

No ahah the Asylum mockbuster is called Tomb Invader and it's purposely awfull.

Mojin is a blockbuster adapted from a serial of books popular in China and Guardian of the Tomb is a chinese australian co production B movie.

They seems to love aventures about Tomb Raider in China because there's a lot of drama adapted from books about tomb raison unfortunately the one I have watch was awfull.

Classic Lara:
Slayed a ****ing dragon
Fought against a god
Doesnt show much emotion
Hesitates when her former mentor arrives infront of her after a long adventure
Gets **** done by herself.

Reboot Lara:
Literally a punchbag
Cries alot (Seems to be a character trait)
Wants to help everyone for whatever reason
Is dumb (screams for Sam while enemies are near her)
Endings are always anticlimactic and nonsensical.
Shows emotion when it's inappropriate (Lara vs Ana)

survivor lara:

- slayed an ancient goddess
- fought against a god
- shows emotion when appropriate
- doesn't hesitate even when she's scared
- ends up having to get **** done by herself b/c everyone around her is useless
