Turns out the director behind the entire TR anime was originally non-binary, but now is trans.



All this time we were worried about Tasha Huo's lame intersectional weirdness, and saying ignorant things like "Legend was hard", meanwhile the director her-(him-?)self stands for all this weird woke "female gaze" crap.

Oh well, TR is shot to s---. But it's not like we didn't know this.

Because supposedly someone’s gender identity governs whether they are a talented director or not. According to the ‘logic’ of some.

I don't think it's that, it's more about if they contain an ideology, which from watching the video is indeed true for this individual. No one would care they were trans if they made sure not to insert their ideology into existing franchises, which is happening a lot recently.

It's like if Nathan McCree started to inject right political nonsense into his music, it would be annoying right? Yet people wanted to already cancel him and replace his work just because he supports Trump.

As for the video, it doesn't surprise me at this point. I just want my curvy, girly Lara Croft back.

Nathan McCree didn’t inject right wing politics into his tomb raider music as far as I am aware. I do not think anything regarding him was to do with his music, I only professed how I personally don’t want to give him money after knowing who I’d be supporting if that’s the case – which is a personal choice. It's up to everyone else to make their choice who they want to support and I do not care what people chose.

I do not think it is because of this director that Lara isn't how you like her, it’s because of CD. Many trans people love curvy bodies. The ideology that created that change is far more than just coming from one thing. Many right wing people even didn’t like Lara’s appearance of the past, I have certainly encountered that a lot. I think the changing of Lara's characterisation is far more than just 'trying to be woke'. That word does not even have any meaning anymore, it changes depending on who you talk to.

We aren't going to know for sure who specifically causes what. But looking at other franchises in recent years, the evidence is there.

A person's sexuality does not match at all with what they produce for entertainment. It's like saying 'I'm straight', nobody cares and that doesn't apply to what he produces.

A person declaring themselves trans or non-binary should not influence anything in the series, which, as seen in the trailers, did not influence anything.

@Omerocoti – I agree. I quite liked what I saw thus far. It’s nice to see her sass and attitude back and I think she looks great despite missing her classic self.

So is it a trans person's fault in 2024 that TR "went woke" in 2013, or... what's the big idea here?

To be honest, it mostly sounds like people just want to cancel this person for being visibly trans, rather than any influence they might've had on the anime - because TR has already been "woke" for over a decade now, so it couldn't really be their fault anyway, and anything they could've done to "course-correct" the anime in that sense would've never been taken in good faith.

You know, because they're the enemy, so says the video author. I'm sure he's not biased. I'm also rather certain he's never played a TR game in his life, so does it matter at all what he has to say?

If you cannot conceive of the difference between Nathan McCree going full conspiracy theorist, and a trans person simply having a career in media, there's no productive discussion to be had.
