Endurance Mode Appreciation Thread
So... Back when ROTTR was released on PS4, on the 11th October 2016, was the first time I could actually play it, after the timed exclusivity with Xbox.
I remember enjoying the game a lot, and specifically, I remember playing Endurance Mode a lot back when the game was released. It was really fun, it was basically like playing a survival game ala The Forest et similia, but with snow and Lara instead Exploring crypts, finding chests, upgrading your gear, skills and weapons, finding food, finding sources to get warm etc., it was a pretty interesting concept and I had played a lot with it. Now... I basically only play on PC, and have been for the past 4 years. I got Rise on Steam years ago, and have been playing it quite a lot since, especially, surprise surprise, Endurance Mode (I currently hold 357 hours on the game, most of it being modding tests and Endurance Mode), and I play it sporadically every now and then, because it's still fun. I still enjoy it, but a lot less than I used to. I'm not sure if it's an issue on all platforms and I just can't remember much about the PS4 version, but my experience of Endurance on PC has been disastrous to say the least. It has so many issues that it's really taking away the joy from playing it. Disappearing items, disappearing enemies, extremely dumb enemy AI, traps activating randomly and killing you unfairly, loud fighting sounds playing from the outside of crypts, and there's definitely more, just can't remember right now. I really can't remember the mode being this broken on PS4, but maybe it's just my bad memory. It's been years since the game came out and 2 years since its latest patch, so it's safe to say these issues won't be addressed, but I'm just curious to know if I'm the only one who's still playing Endurance from time to time? |

Oh how nice it is to see this post!
I love, love, LOVE Endurance mode. It's so much fun to play, and like you said - I just wish it was a tiny bit more polished. Having to survive in the endless Siberian wilderness is thrilling, and IMO this mode does a great job at recreating that atmosphere of loneliness, isolation and danger that the older TR games had! And the feeling you get when you finally stumble upon a crypt? Or when you're on day 8 and FINALLY spot a deer? Impeccable! It's also fun to play with a friend, but the network issues are just crazy. Also the co-op achievement descriptions can be a bit unclear sometimes. I'm still missing 2 of them by the way, so if anyone wants to help... Anyway, one more thing that I've been dying to get off my chest for a long time: Ever since Shadow of the TR was announced, I've been wondering if they would add a Jungle Endurance mode to the game. Can you imagine how awesome that would be?! Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought about it! |

And no, you're not the only one who wanted a Jungle map for Endurance in SOTTR. It's a bummer that they decided to completely scrap the mode for Shadow. Actually, when Endurance mod first dropped I was convinced that they were going to add more maps, since the Siberian Wilderness is actually a map you have to select on the screen, which led me to believe they were going to do more with it. Too bad they just abandoned it to what it is right now. |

Shame on the devs for leaving it so underdeveloped! |

Endurance mode always had a plethora of issues, playing online on PC was more likely to end with a crash for the 2nd player than dying.
Its a shame since its technically a fun idea, but instability makes it barely worth playing. Don't Starve Together is a very a different kind of game, but it might scratch the Endurance mode itch somewhat. |
