I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I think the whole project is bad.
The other day I listened to it for the first time, and...eww. It's trying to be epic for no reason, way too drawn out for no reason and biggest issue of it: these reimagined tracks lost their magic. In the og tracks there was something simple and effortless, that made them so uniqe. That 'spark' is lost, I believe. |

Reading all of this and now I'm glad I never gave a single coin to this The Tomb Raider Suite Project tbh. Nathan's behavior seems absolutely strange and the way he tried to defame Peter Connelly is absolutely vile.
And most importantly, I listened to his Suite on Spotify and it really doesn't sound that great. Many tracks sound a bit off tune and kinda wonky. It's nice that he tried to create longer versions of some shorter tunes but frankly Square/CrystalD should have just bought the rights to the soundtrack and then hire London Music Works (or any other orchestra) to play it. Sometimes less is more and many fans would have preferred to listen to the original soundtracks, just played by the live orchestra. Last edited by Caesum; 24-11-24 at 14:58. |

The TR Suite was never meant to replace the originals; the main theme from each game was also left intact (bar the arrangement). Then he also relased the Synth Mixes, which kinda provide the best of both worlds; those are the tracks I saved in my playlists on Spotify, as they generally sound better in my humble system and evoke a lot of nostalgia. Anyway I think the epic nature of it is more suited for that kind of orchestral arrangement and I don't find it out of place at all- The T-rex benefits A LOT from that, and listening to the synth versions it seems seemlessly incorporated.
I think the TR suite works best when listened live or lossless with some higher-end equipement. I like many of the tracks and usually "imagine" them in this new longer version in my head. There are exceptions (e.g. Skidoo) and I do think he used the main leitmotif a bit too much; having 3 medleys as recorded, paid tracks is also not of my liking expecially when there were at least 2 more tracks he could have rearranged. It's also a bit weird TR1 didn't get a new original track as the other 2 but that's a minor thing. The missing link would have been the remastered original OST. A pity. Best to seperate the art from the artist. Celebrate the good artists but realise there's always a high probabilty that one or two degenerates have been involved in what you love. Happens in all media.
Most of the guys and girls involved in the Core era games are really nice people. They turn up to the Derby events or answer fan questions on twitter/facebook, helped dig out old development materials for the remasters and generally arent out to make a quick buck from their involvement in the series. But a few of them are clearly awful people. One of the developers was convicted for being a pedo around the time they were working on TR4. The reliance on excessive crunch to get the games out every year by the bosses was abusive. As for Nathan, he just comes across as a bitter old man nowadays, only interested in rinsing the last bit of money from his brief involvement in TR, abusing fans and putting down his successor at every opportunity. |

Honestly, I really like most of the TR Suite tracks. I think Nathan, the orchestra and everyone else involved did a great job on the music. But yeah, a lot of the other **** he's said and done along the way... yikes.
With the Dark Angel Symphony it's kinda the other way around for me. From everything I've seen and heard, Peter is an absolute sweetheart but unfortunately I just can't get into most of the DAS tracks because of all the jazz stuff he added in (not saying that it's bad but it's just not my cup of tea). |

Personally I think the synth mixes he did for the TR Suite was way better than the orchestra stuff. I find myself listening to that way more than the live orchestra version.

Unfortunately a lot of things may lose the original impact when "translated" into orchestra or even simply another synthetizer; I do think Nathan made some unfortunate decisions, however - like the incredibly toned down percussions in the TR3 theme, there is no way he couldn't have made them stronger.
