Aha. Thank you, @Arsunt!

It looks like the behavior is the same (the game booting you to the main menu after Kingdom is finished), regardless of whether or not the "Any Level" flag is already unlocked, so I guess that answers my question!

I could swear I've played a version of the game where you were sent directly to Nightmare in Vegas without having to go through the Select Level menu first - but perhaps that's an old CD version or something!

(I was trying to check whether or not I actually needed the fan patch that gives Lara her missing weapons, made for the versions of GM where you enter Nightmare in Vegas with all weapons already unlocked)

Probably fan modded tombpc.dat with no secret dependency.

It is supposed to start the bonus level with just pistols, except NewGame+ (after you finished Nightmare in Vegas once).

Hello everyone.

My congratulations to Arsunt, who is creating the best Tomb Raider 2 experience on modern PCs yet.

I wanted to ask Arsunt about some settings in "Extra Options" that don't explain which setting is the closest one to PSX.

Reflections: the PlayStation version had reflection effect on some items, mainly sword blades and bladed wheels.
Disable: no reflection effects.
HighRes / LowRes: sharp or blurry reflections.
Direct / Reverse: direct (left to right) or mirrored (right to left) reflections.

Which option is the most PSX-accurate?

BarefootSfx: if enabled, barefoot steps sound effects are used in the levels
where Lara has no boots (barefoot.sfx and TR2Main.json required).

Was this sfx originally present in the PSX version but was not in the PC ver? Or it's just an extra?

I've noticed that the game automatically saves your best times in the Assault Course, but I couldn't find a savegame in the game's folder. Are those stats saved in a reg entry? If so, what should I do if I wanted to erase them?

BTW I hope TR3Main (and even 4 and 5 ) is not far off... TR3 is in dire need of your masterful touch! I've always thought that the definitive way to play the classic TR games was on a PSX emulator, but with TR2Main you proved me wrong!

^ Barefoot sound effects were present in the PAL PSX release of TR2, but none of the others.

As for the Assault Course PB, that's stored in the "Assault" registry entry, found under the Core Design/Tomb Raider II/Game subfolder, if you have a look in the registry editor!

I'm not sure about the reflections, but from memory, I believe the "high-res" and "direct" options are the closest equivalent to how things looked on PSX.

Thanks for your answer.

About the Assault reg entry, should I set all the values to 00, or just erase it completely, so the next time I complete the course it will rewrite itself?

Just delete it; I gave that a try just now and it does rewrite itself as expected.

Thanks! I'm trying to do my best to give such game experience.

Direct one is the most close to PS1. Reversed one was just an experiment, and it will be deleted in the further TR2Main releases. HighRes will look the same as PS1 if you play at 640x480.

It was presented in PS1 PAL only. I have ripped and slightly remastered step SFX from the levels and put them in the separate SFX file to PC.

My plan includes TR1Main, TR2Main, TR3Main.
But TR5Main (and TR4Main someday) is developed by MontyTRC and his team.

I play at 1920x1080, it's the same right?

I look forward to TR1Main and TR3Main!
I thought that TR5Main by MontyTRC was an entirely new Tomb Raider level editor engine, and not a re-implementation of PSX-only features and improved compatibility with modern PCs like your TR2Main.

If you want to compare TR2Main with TR2 PS1 emulated on some high resolution emulator engine, I guess right now you may want "ReflectionsLowRes_Direct.reg". Because PS1 uses 256x256 reflection texture even on higher emulated display resolutions.

In further TR2Main updates there will be slightly different reflection options, no direct or reversed, but 3 types :
- Low (even more blurry reflection than on PS1)
- Medium (the same reflection detail level as on PS1)
- High (very sharp reflection, you can see every detail like in a mirror)

Question

I wasn't sure where to ask this or if I have to make another thread but there's one thing I want to know.

If Lara kills the Guardian of the Talion she will trigger the level to end. Even if you place the Guardian for example into the Great Wall... the level will end as soon as the guardian dies.

Now to my question:

Can this kind of level ending trigger for the Guardian be disabled?
(maybe hardcode related?)

Is it possible to add this for a different baddie like the Dragon for example?

I know this would be useless for the original TR2 game but it would be useful for custom games and or mods
