Black Widow
8/10

Not the best, or my favorite Marvel movie... That said I really enjoyed the ride and was so happy to return to theaters after so long! I'm hyped to see...
Florence Pugh potentially take on the Black Widow title in future MCU projects! She was absolutely outstanding as Yelena! I am curious to see how things will unfold with Clint/Hawkeye and De Fontaine. Maybe Yelena will join the future Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers with John Walker (US Agent)?

The Vast of Night (Prime)

Twilight Zone story of alien visitors as a movie. Very interesting film making. There's like a ten minute scene of a girl on a switchboard for ten minutes, carrying the film. Don't be fooled by the beginning which, IMO, is difficult to follow all the dialog. Stick with it.

Fear Street Part 3: 1666

Personally, I thought this one was the weakest of the three. After a thrilling Part 2 that really escalated things in terms of how intense and brutal it was, I was expecting Part 3 to continue on that road but instead I found it a lot less spine-chilling.

The 1666 part of the film was interesting, getting to see the origins of the evil behind Shadyside's horror. I appreciate them attempting to subvert expectations, but in the end I actually found the twist quite predictable and honestly disappointing. Also, while on paper using the same cast in the 17th century setting sounds good — particularly for those playing their ancestors — I would have preferred to have the actual Sarah Fier actress instead of Deena's.

The 1994 Part 2 segment takes us back to the campy fun of the first film and wraps everything up. I liked the addition of the mall guy to the gang and I liked their plan to deal with things.

Overall, while I still enjoyed part 3, I guess I expected more from it.

I'd say 1978 > 1994 > 1666.

Me Before You, Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin. A sweet romance film. Emilia is delightful in her role as a woman who falls for the wealthy, paralysed man she's hired to care for.

Weathering with You (Japanese)

From the director who brought you Your Name., a story about a girl who can control the weather.

Not sure if it's as good as Your Name., but it is very good and just as stunningly beautiful. Always fun to recognize Shinjuku Station.

The Empty Man (Netflix)

Definitely some good stuff, but also not super tight near the end.

A Cure for Wellness

What a beautifully photographed, but thoroughly bonkers movie. This review sums it up nicely:

https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/2/1...ellness-review

Quote:
A Cure for Wellness clocks in at 146 minutes long, and writer-director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger) and his co-writer Justin Haythe cram every one of those minutes with pure, undiluted silliness. Then they douse them in kerosene and light them on fire.

We just saw it yesterday. American supernatural mystery thriller written, directed, and co- produced by M. Night Shyamalan. We enjoyed it too at the movies.

Girl, Interrupted

Apparently it's based on a true story and Susanna is a real person. That's pretty neat.

I was waiting for the part where they go deeper into Lisa's character and why she is the way she is but it never came. Probably my only gripe, I wanted to feel more clearly conflicted emotions about her but don't feel like the movie ever tried giving me a reason.
